eyewall
I doubt there's really any radiational cooling going on right now. Probably pretty well mixed and the coldest temps should be elevational dependent. Also wouldn't be surprised to see a little rise in temperatures later tonight as the core of the cold air moves out. Then IF anyone can decouple maybe they can fall again. Yeah I wouldn't think there was much at all. It was definitely a sharp drop by nearly 10 degrees from route 2 to the parking lot at 2100 feet up the Bolton Access Road. It was the most impressive cold I have ever experienced as even last year's -22 (inland) didn't feel as bad as there was no wind.In fact most of that drop was within the last few hundred feet. klw
I have to say I am impressed with nothing close to ideal radiational cooling out there. With being at elevation and on the side of the hill, I think the wind is helping me drop faster than the valley below me. Oh well to bed.
klw
Peacham is a cold spot. Right on the edge of the NEK. Allenson calls that area of Peacham - Groton the Near Kingdom. I am not in a usual cold hollow, the bottom of my hill is often at least 5 degrees colder in the morning. I start colder and end warmer. While I like the idea of extremes it doesn't hurt the oil supply to stay a bit warmer at night.
Allenson
If my thermometer is to be trusted, we've set a homestead record here this morning. Currently reading -28.7 which would surpass our coldest reading that I've seen here at -27 back in January of 2009--the same morning of the -50 in Big Black River, ME. Looking at other obs from around the region though, most places are coming in in the negative teens to around -20. Maybe my thermometer is 'off'...? Either way, cold one out there... klw
My thermometer is reading -26.3F so not too far from Allenson's reading but there is a Davis station not far from me that is saying -20.7 with a dew of -26 so my thermometer could be running cold. It is new this winterr so I don't have a long history with it. Here is a -28.3 over at Joe's Pond which is less than 6 miles as the crow flies. http://www.wunderground.com/q/zmw:05862.1.99999 Also a -27.5 at Greensboro but not as cold at Island Pond or Burke. Hills over cold hollows this morning.

Lava Rock
-12.5f. Pretty sure that's the coldest I've recorded since living here for last 3 winter's. The wind and some elevation definitely helped.
J.Spin
Event totals: 0.3” Snow/0.03" L.E. Measurement yesterday evening revealed 0.3" from the arctic frontal passage, and this snow has been coming in right at 10% H2O. The temperature was right at 0.0 F yesterday evening, and -14.1 F this morning. The temperature has still been falling a bit this morning here, but -14 isn't too bad compared to some cold shots we've had, and it looks like it's generally uphill from here over the next few days. Details from the 6:00 P.M. Waterbury observations: New Snow: 0.3 inches New Liquid: 0.03 inches Snow/Water Ratio: 10.0 Snow Density: 10.0% H2O Temperature: 0.0 F Sky: Light Snow (1 mm flakes) Snow at the stake: 3.0"

So far it's proved pretty accurate from what I can tell but maybe down is this range it's a bit skewed. My old mercury thermometer is reading -20 on the nose. Might be closer to the truth than the digital one.... Digital one now down to -29.7....
mahk_webstah
The low at home was -13.4. Remarkable given the wind, and one of the lowest since I've lived in NH (2008).

Lava Rock
Bottomed out at -13F. That's the coldest my Davis station has reported since I've had it which goes back to 2004. At that time we were living in Sturbridge till 2009, then back to Maine. Without any wind this morning, it really didn't feel that cold. I threw some hot water in the air; most of it vaporized pretty quick. I was bored. Sure would be nice to start tracking a big storm. The cold has been beneficial, but it's time for a good storm. Pretty sad when our largest (11") was back at Thanksgiving.
