tazaroo
If the cold presses to far south and very strong it squishes any storm trying to develop. Often at least. Thus you hear the somewhat infamous cold and dry statements, or as delta says the storms are put in the meat grinder. At least it looks very cold for the Southeast next week. Step one in my book for a chance of fun later.
WXinCanton
2m Maximum temp at 120 for ATL is 36. 2m max temp at 144 is 26. 2m min at 120 is 25 and 2m min at 144 is 21. The coldest they get is 13 at 132 hours. 13 at KATL should put me in single digits easy. I don't know, but I doubt I get single digits IMBY. BullCityWx
Looking at the WxBell maps, interestingly it would appear that the coldest temps in the state(except places with elevation) are concentrated along I-85 from Greensboro to Charlotte. NC_hailstorm
See what a little strat warming splitting/displacement can do? Main driver of this, and it shakes up the pattern moving the SE ridge out further. Hopefully the MJO can get a kick in the pants later, get some tropical forcing. Carry on. It really is going to be dangerous out with the wind chills. Not sure if it will get as cold as last year but right know looks like below zero is a good bet.
