calculus1
I finished 2014 with 44.12 inches of rainfall IMBY, which was quite dry compared to last year buy roughly equal to 2012. August was the wettest month with 6.93 inches, and June was the driest month with only 2.08 inches. January (unsurprisingly) was the coldest month of the calendar year IMBY with a mean temperature of an incredibly low 32.3 F. (For comparison, January 2012 had a mean temperature of 41.5 F and January 2013 had 42.1 F.) The lowest temperature of the year was also recorded during that month at 2.2 F on January 7. The burst pipes were a testament to the ferocity of the cold. June (surprisingly, IMO) was the warmest month of the calendar year IMBY with a mean temperature of 74.5 F. However, the warmest temperature of the year was recorded on July 2 at 97.1 F. This calendar year IMBY featured 92 days where the low temperature was colder than 32 F (2012 = 65, 2013 = 82), 4 days where the high temperature was colder than 32 F (2012 = 0, 2013 = 2), and 36 days where the high temperature was warmer than 90 F (2012 = 45, 2013 = 15). The mean temperature for the entire calendar year was 57.0 F, which is the coldest of the now three years of complete records that I have at this location (2012 = 59.4 F, 2013 = 57.1 F). ocala
For me it was a year of extremes. Record highs in temperature and rainfall. Hit a 101 in July which was impressive because in the Florida peninsula the Gulf is about 84 and the Atlantic is about 82 in my area in the middle of the state. For rainfall I was just under 63 inches which is also impressive because there was no tropical activity. Needed that because we have been below average, 49inches, for a while. Because of that rain I was also below normal in temps for every month of the year. When I say record I meant for the 11 years I have been recording data. magpiemaniac
Has anyone seen this? Amazed at how relatively dry the Triad was last year. http://nc-climate.ncsu.edu/climateblog?id=
calculus1
magpiemaniac, that map matches well with the ground truth in my neighborhood. Thanks for posting it.
wncsnow
Nice map! Love how it shows the immediate escarpment of the blue ridge with over 65 inches of rain for the year! The past 2 years were the wettest were incredibly wet here, especially in the summer and spring.
Solak
I don't have the time to do a monthly breakdown, but here in Johnston County (NC-JH-7) , we had exactly 63.00" for 2014. in 2013 we had 57+", and in 2012, 40+". I believe the 30 year average at KJNX, 2 miles down the road, is just over 44.5" Some of the heavier amounts this summer were from stationary thundershowers that popped up overhead and rained themselves out. I mentioned it before somewhere, but it was really surprising looking back and realizing that we had so much rain in a non-tropical year.
