We should form an AA group because we're gonna need it after we drink our sorrows away.

Hello I'm Josh and I'm an addict... it started as watching TWC in the 1990s then moved on to reading NWS discussions, then I was into watching the occasional model run. Before I knew it I was staying up for the Euro and posting on AmericanWx and TalkWx. After the crash of 2015 I was a full blown drunk. The only white stuff I saw was white lightning :weep:

I think Webber just set a SE forum record for going back to find a storm that happened in a pattern similar to the one in which we are currently mired.

"Blizzard of 1895 (mid February). Southeastern Texas & Louisiana were absolutely crippled."

One hundred and twenty years.  Hell yeah!!  We're overdue.

Desperation level Alpha.   lol

Hahahaha! I just came in here to post virtually the exact same thing after reading that! Awesome.

I remember that storm... when we had the SE meetup at the saloon and our wagon broke down

That was a pretty good while ago.  Some other things that happened in Feb 1895.

Moving picture projector patented

1st intercollegiate basketball game (Minn Agricult beats Hamline, 9-3)

Volleyball invented by W G Morgan in Massachusetts

Funny, but that doesn't make me feel more optimistic.  :)

For one time in my life I'd like to just wake up to a foot of snow on the ground with no model watching or notice. Just a storm out of thin air, so to speak.

they talk funny up there, but spend a winter or two in upstate NY or on the east side of Lake Michigan ....

did both; paid taxes; but damn did it snow out of nowhere (including flurries on July 4 one year)

Yeah that's true. Anytime we're talking about blizzards that happened over a century ago, you know the situation ain't good.

By the way, the projector one was surprising to me. I thought that would have happened later.

That was the patent.  It took a while for it to be perfected and brought out to the public.

Yeah, the intention of that post was to demonstrate how difficult it is to produce a Miller B/overrunning event & (even Miller As to an extent), in the absence of high-latitude blocking over the North Pacific (-EPO/WPO). I did throw in the caveat about if we are to see wintry weather when there's a dearth of blocking in & around Alaska, that's most likely to occur from about mid February thru early March because of the annual behavior of the mid-latitude jet is able to contradict the climatological tendencies associated w/ these winter storm types. I was forced to resort focusing my attention on stronger storms earlier in the record simply because it is relatively rare in a general sense for us to get large overrunning/Miller Bs w/o the northeastern Pacific being blocked up... Additionally, there are likely various other minor events that have transpired during that period I didn't cover because some may be "buried" within historical archives, data, etc. and are thus considerably harder to detect and assess.

Has anyone seen calculus today?  I have a bad feeling about this.

Soooooooooooooo...... boring......................

I can't wait for thunderstorm season beginning in May.

It's thunderstorm season now   :P

(1) I've been outside enjoying this fine winter day.  I washed the inside and outside of both family vehicles this afternoon.  Armor-all on the dashboards.  Tire cleaner on the wheels.  A little Rain-X on the glass surfaces.  Saweeet!  My 15-year-old vehicles have never looked so nice!    When you don't believe in car payments, you make do with what you have.  Nothing like a paid-off 2001 Chevy Venture over a $500-a-month 2015 Honda Odyssey!  Can I get an "Amen!"?

(2) Yep.  Al-Gebra is a notorious gang that has brought about the demise of many students.  Quite dangerous.  Students don't fail calculus class because they don't understand the concepts; they fail because they can't do algebra.

It was a beautiful day   ^_^

Some of you guys need some SSRI's :) note: I'm not qualified to give anyone actual medical advice.

SSRIs are recommended by for the treatment of generalized model watching disorder that has failed to respond to conservative measures such as self-help activities like turning off computers. Model watching is a common disorder of which the central feature is excessive worry about a number of different run events. Key symptoms include excessive anxiety about multiple dissimilar runs and non-snow issues, and difficulty controlling worrisome thoughts that persists for at least 6 months or until the following fall's long range winter forecasts are published.

Occasional cool snaps provide a modest-to-moderate reduction in anxiety .
