I didn't miss it.  I saw it and assumed you dropped that equation for me, but I was rushed to put kids to bed and so on.  Way to not let that trig knowledge fade away!

Yeah, that was for you, sir!

I'm a little worried about busting high on QPF for the Wednesday event because the skies are going to need to heal from today's rains... The birds urge caution.

Lol, that is true!

It's worth mentioning, the PDO this past December according to JISAO, set a new all-time monthly record high by a lot... +2.51. The closest rival is December 2002 and this was the highest monthly PDO value observed since August 1997. In fact, this is the 9th highest PDO value in the entire record, behind July 1936, November 1936, August 1941, July 1983, August 1987, August 1993, June 1997, & August 1997. Incredible

Come on guys, y'all know damn well y'all are rooting for all that ice the NAM is showing. Don't act like you don't want it!

I used to root for 'em all the time growing up. Nothing like seeing a pretty glaze on the trees...especially when the sun first comes out and the branches glisten, right before it starts to melt.

And then this happened.

That was a beast for sure. No power for over 60 hours from that. The only longer outage came in 2000 from the Carolina Crusher.

Yep, and it stayed cold the week afterwards if I recall correctly. Or maybe it just seemed cold since I didn't have any power!

I think back on Dec. 2002 and could you imagine if had been all snow :snowing: or even all ZR for that matter. Either way

I hear ya. That was an awful lot of qpf in a pretty cold air mass...especially that time of year. Hell, I would have taken all sleet compared to what we got instead.

I'm ready for the "this was a surprise , or this was unexpected, no one knew this was coming , was not expecting this" posts! Someone is going to do it even though the threat was being clearly discussed.

I know it sounds bad, but hopefully this storm will happen as modeled because things will get even worse on here if it's a bust lol.

It was discussed , but mainly as a joke. It was zdrizzlegeddon , and joked about for people getting excited about a model run showing .05 precip amounts! That being said, it's very rare to get this much of an uptick in precip at almost zero hour! Obs thread should get interesting, I want to see lots of pics of down trees and stuff!

What sucks though is that all the ice will be gone later that afternoon. Look at how the models show the temperature rising into the upper 30s and 40s. This is how every ice storm I have been in in Chicago was. I have never seen the ice actually stay. They always seemed to hit overnight, then you wake up to no ice. Lol I used to be scared when the trees were hanging all the way down like that.

That'll give them time to clean up the tree debris!

You better be ready, Feb gonna be rocking, and will be a Groundhog Day winter storm for mby, book it!
