There are people on my facebook wall going nuts over this map. Not sure who this met is but thought it was comical. All bread and milk in my area will be gone by noon.

A guy in my office just ran over and showed me this image(I brought him back to reality). Funny and sad at the same time...

That certainly sounds like him. IIRC,  Dt was the one who came up with the EE (euro/nam/old eta rule) . If not, he certainly used to promote it a lot. So it doesn't surprise me he went with that. Given his history, One would think that dt would not be so bullish on calling people out so soon. I mean it's one thing to disagree with someone but it's entirely something else to go ballistic and start throwing insults while claiming victory so soon. He should know better that in the world of weather and forecasting, such talk is absolutely absurd and potentially embarrassing. And he has to be pretty embarrassed right now.

I doubt he is embarrassed. I don't think he has it in him. Pissed? Yep.

I understand that.  I also understand it costs $80 per month, the same amount I fork over to Comcast for terrible service.

Let's get one thing straight. Google Fiber costs $70 per month for 1gb internet. Every other provider will be charging you the same price for 25mb down or at the most 50mb down (TWC is $64.99 for a year contract at 50mb their fastest speed) and half the time their speeds aren't consistent. I don't know how anyone can claim it is expensive...expensive compared to what? 5mb is either $25 a month or $300 a year with Google Fiber. For 5mb with TWC it's $29.99 and you're locked in for a year. Not to mention you can do 1gb speed and cable TV for $120 a month. I pay around $220 for the fastest internet and digital cable. Sign me up today for Google Fiber please.

(moving this to banter) :)

It has sucked compared to expectations, not necessarily because of a deviation from normal.

Incorrect.  It has sucked by any expectation.  This is the second time in my 22 winters that I have not had accumulating snowfall before the end of January (the other being 2011-2012).  The HYPE HYPE HYPE made it even more unbearable, but it's terrible by any metric.

Exactly.  From Comcast I get a slower speed than Google Fiber, a data cap that we regularly bump up against in our household, and just the general hatefulness that is Comcast's service.  I could tell you stories about them, but it would piss me off for the rest of the day if I think much about it.

I honestly don't expect them to come this far north of the city.  Probably the best we can hope for is that they help drive down prices in this market.  But, Comcast will probably just game their pricing by zip code or even neighborhood in the greater metro area, and any neighborhoods that don't have GF as an option will still pay high prices for lower quality offerings.

Whats the average snowfall in High Point for the year? 4 or 5 inches? My point is that one storm in either February and March, and suddenly you are at normal or above, whether or not you had snow in December or January. Our expectations created by forecasts going into winter, was that all of the South was suddenly going to become Buffalo, NY and because so, here we are with people crying from areas that receive a couple inches a year, because they haven't received their average by the end of January.

A little perspective goes a long way, that was my point.

Do y'all think it would be cheaper to ditch cable and satellite TV and watch everything online eventually? I was thinking of just getting Netlix, Hulu Plus, HBO Go, and the new ESPN deal when it became available. The only bad thing is it would not have ESPNU, which has college games I would want to watch. But I wonder if it would be cheaper to subscribe to all those streaming services and have an HD antenna for the local stations with the internet, or if would still come out to about the same as the cable and internet bundle I have now.

What I wouldn't give for $70 internet at 1gb....best I can do is 50mb down and half the time it's only like 25mb down through speedtests.

TWC is totally ripping us off here in the CAE area.  It's the only option for true high-speed.  They just got around to rolling 50/100mb out, but I just have the 30 because they want like $20 more for 50... which isn't that great of an improvement.

Bandwidth is cheap, Google is taking advantage of that.. while other companies act like its precious as gold.  The Wireless phone companies are the absolute worst about it though.

The only thing keeping me from ditching cable completely is sports.
