Cold Rain
Being positive is still better than being negative all the time and whining about not getting snow. And if it doesn't snow, oh well, life goes on. But just reading time and time again it's not going to snow, it sucks, it's never snowing again just because it has not worked out so far is tiresome. No one wants to be around negativity like that all the time. You don't have to read it. Is someone making you read the boards? And you're lumping in realism with negativity. Sure, there have been some posts about it's not going to snow anymore. But that's hyperbole (just like most everything you just wrote), and it's not the majority of the posts, like you're making it out. Nobody is saying the world will end if it doesn't snow. That's a straw man. Hoping for snow does not make it snow. Show why it might snow. Do it.
Brick Tamland
You say this every time it snows. Yes you did. Um, no I didn't. I thought maybe I would see what we got in Wake Forest, but I didn't expect anyone around me to get as much as Vance County got.
FallsLake
We have roughly 6 more weeks of winter in Central/Eastern NC, most of SC, and most of GA. Without showing the April 43 Blizzard of 1543 BC, can somebody give an idea of what they see developing in the atmosphere in the present day that would be supportive of a pattern that would support a winter storm that isn't based solely upon luck? And analogs can go pound sand. They have been useless so far...at least all of the ones that have shown cold and snow. I would but my woolly worm is all dried up; can't tell if his back end is black. It's just one or two posters that have been pointed out that seem to always be so overly negative about things. There is a difference in saying this one isn't going to work out, so let's move on to see what else comes down the road and saying this sucks, I knew it wouldn't snow, it's not going to snow this winter, etc.

tnweathernut
how much was he forecasting? I suppose he was cursing everyone at some point too? He was in TWC's grill last night, roasting Carl Parker and everyone else that dared say accumulations might not be what the Euro was showing and telling the world they didn't have the ability to think. It appears (hindsight) he was the one with the closed mind and an inability to think. To me, his biggest problem is he hugs the Euro. When the NAM fell in line for a run or two, he completely closed his mind and it wouldn't have mattered what data or satellite/radar presentation/loop he looked at, he wasn't backing down. Of course this is just me speculating, but it's not like it's an uneducated guess, lol. As late as 11:00 PM, his call was for: DT just updated his map. 18-24 inches for Central park and 24-30 just east of them from JFK eastward. Batman
I guess that is what people are doing now, betting the streak. But we still have some time and there is still a chance of us getting some snow. I didn't expect the counties just to the north of me to get what they did overnight. They actually got some measurable snow out of something that was just supposed to be a dusting at best. I wish people would just stop being so negative just because we have not had snow yet. That is what it is all based on. It is still winter, and if we don't get any snow then we just move onto spring and life goes on. The negativity and whining is old. Great post Brick! A post displaying maturity and a sense of reality. Something that has often been lacking here this winter. Virtually everyone here wants snow, but going on and on about how this winter sucks and it will never snow does nothing productive to contribute to the conversation. WRT the actual weather, there have been many posts about how this is about it. Winter is over. If this weekend does not produce, you can pretty much forget it. In January?!?! We have had much worse patterns than this over the years. We have had plenty winters that were consistent blow torch winters. This winter has been nothing of the sort. We may very well all finish with no snow this winter. I doubt it, but it is very possible. Regardless of that, I am confident we will finish this season far from what would be considered a warm winter for the SE. What I'm learning though is that with some folks, perception is reality. If you don't get what you want, everything sucks. I just don't understand that philosophy.

Webberweather53
You know that this winter sucks when we argue over trace versus dusting versus token flakes. They're actually both the same exact thing (trace & "token flakes" that is), and since snow is measured to the nearest tenth of an inch, a trace of snow is any amount of snow that falls but accumulates to less than .1 of an inch
jwisephotog
When will the Carpathia show up to the ship jumping party? I understand that the models are everywhere with every system we have had this year... Just call them the Kardashians.... but seriously....I feel like we rely on models too much... We get a few bad runs and everyone is abandoning the ship... 10 days out we had snow... 9-7 we had rain.... 6 days out 0z nam had a good majority of snow for everyone... now its back to rain. I'm not saying the models have no clue whats really going on but lets face it... I realize models play an important role in forecasting... but what if this time they completely blow it and we get dumped on sun-mon? I guess if that happens everyone will just say they knew it was going to happen and ignore jumping off the ship in the 1st place.

IIRC, Dt was the one who came up with the EE (euro/nam/old eta rule) . If not, he certainly used to promote it a lot. So it doesn't surprise me he went with that. Given his history, One would think that dt would not be so bullish on calling people out so soon. I mean it's one thing to disagree with someone but it's entirely something else to go ballistic and start throwing insults while claiming victory so soon. He should know better that in the world of weather and forecasting, such talk is absolutely absurd and potentially embarrassing. And he has to be pretty embarrassed right now. tnweathernut
Some people are optimistic, some are pessimistic, I guess others just go with the flow exhibiting both optimism and pessimism (depending on what's happening). Have ya'll ever considered BOTH general camps have merit? Why argue over it? The pessimistic crowd can hang their hat on the fact this winter has been an absolute failure SNOW wise (here's the key, to this point). Two full months of futility. The optimistic crown can hang their hat on the fact it's only January 27th and we are about to head into one of the most favorable months for snow/ice in the SE. Still lots of time left for "possible" fun and games. Why does it have to be a peeing match between members all the time?

Maybe, but he's too self serving and way too narcissistic to let it get him down for long. He will probably figure out a way to throw a few darts, even in light of the fact he just got spanked by the "lowly" Carl Parker and TWC.

Yeah Nantucket got it really bad this morning. I woke up at like 3 or 4am and saw Mike Seidel in intense conditions and a surge a water has pushed ashore like a few seconds later. I think I earlier this morning about the insane conditions he was in.
