mackerel_sky
The 00z GFS is in another world. <5" of additional snow for NYC and like 10" for Long Island. No way Long Island doesn't get smashed, IMHO. I can see NYC getting screwed, but LI getting screwed seems hard to believe. Who cares about them, how's our blizzard looking!? superjames1992
The 00z RGEM barely has 0.25" for NYC. It's not even that impressive for Massachusetts. Almost certainly underdone, though.
JoshM
And the GFS has the new data in it too? LOL
jshetley
See: January 2000 and February 2004 My location got lucky with the band in 2000. We got 1 foot here with places 7-8 miles away getting almost nothing. This area also got 1 foot in 2004, although places 10 miles to my southeast ended up with around 18. jburns
The Ohio valley runner on day 6 blizzard. Great if you like rain. GFS is the new champ too! But is it Ali or Leon Spinks? Tune in to the rematch to find out.
metalicwx366
New York City about to get the band. Two guys in NYC just said they will be out all night taking pictures of the storm and they are a little disappointed currently because they were expecting an apocalyptic storm. kvegas-wx
Comma heads can be cruel.....truer words were never spoken! But dry slots and leeside screw jobs piss me off too. But all of those pale in comparison to the bait and switch being dumped on those naive souls by CNN and TWC right now. Such a joke!
Solak
US National Weather Service New York NY 27 mins · 11:11p: There may be a feeling that the storm is not happening as forecast. We are seeing a rapid expansion of moderate to heavy snow moving east to west towards New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley. The storm system is rapidly intensifying off the coast. The worst conditions were not expected until overnight, and we are beginning to see observations of blizzard conditions across Long Island and southern CT. As the low slows down southeast of Montauk Tuesday morning, bands of snow will continue to pivot through the region.

Things still seem to be on track to me, just like the NYC NWS said LI has been getting slammed w/ blizzard conditions for a while now and there is a heavy snow band moving into NYC within half an hour. metalicwx366
Finally someone is putting DT in his place. He is clearly lying about TWC. They never said the snow would be over by 9 tonight. Its really funny when you go on his FB page. He says its better to hype 30 inches than TWC forecasting 6-12.
superjames1992
NWS Mt. Holly finally bit the bullet and SLASHED totals for NJ. Some of these zones are showing 1/3rd of what they were before. NYC on east should still make out very well. Philly's warning was also dropped. OUCH. They were forecasted to get big totals...

superjames1992
Poor guys... Are you watching it for next weeks storm? I'll probably catch up and report on the trainwreck at about 1:30. I am trying to do some work, too, LOL... Looks like the NWS has further cut NYC's totals down to a more reasonable 14-18". Yesterday, they were showing 24-36". The Euro flopped and they went all-in for it...
deltadog03
Im stunned that the GFS did better in spots as well. its doing awful in others. I declare a mistrial... they all suck!

superjames1992
Still a huge storm. 14-18 is a major storm even for them. Maybe. But it's not crippling, historic, or worthy of shutting the city down for, which is what was done. It's just another run-of-the-mill major storm... like a 6" storm here. It's notable, exciting, and might be the highlight of the winter, but I'm not likely to remember it a few decades from now.

wncsnow
Had to update my sig... if you remove the 09-10 and 10-11 winters here, less than 17 inches of snow the past 11 years for a place that averages 10'' a winter.. snow drought for sure.. timnc910
we can forget about next weeks storm its not going to happen.. the pattern has gone to junk the last couple of runs... i think the moutains still stand a chance for wintry weather.but this clipper isnt going to do what the models were showing developing a 50 50. this storm just isnt that strong to make it happen... seeing nyc only get half their forecast snow total doesnt make me feel so bad being i got about the same our of both the jan 28 and early feb storm last year. downeastnc
Insane that NYC got shafted epic letdown I am sure.....I was pretty convinced that the would have gotten at least 12-20" but it seems that was just east of the city...
Hvward
So is this a win for the new GFS? I haven't been following the models too closely on this storm but knew there was a large discrepancy. Wasn't the Euro showing like 20"-30" for Boston?
