The clown (beware as it counts all wintry precip. as accumulating SN!!!) is snowier than the 0Z EPS. Here are some highlights/heavier amounts: 3" at James' place and 2.5" at Brick's yard/CR's castle/NE GA's home. ASVL gets 3" and Charlotte nearly gets 3". Knoxville gets 2". The 1" line gets all of the way down to MCN.

Excellent comparison CR.  Much better set up modeled for that feb storm definitely.  I will say in my own defense for buying into this weekend's storm, that both the EURO and GFS had pretty COLD runs at 850 there for a while, unfavorable lows or no.  Perhaps that should have been the red flag.  There was discussion on whether or not they were "good" or "bad".  Evidently they were BAD!  Looking forward to see if that look we're seeing stays and if the big fat red "L's" stay away from the US/Canada border. :snowing:

Yeah, low pressure across the northern tier is always a red flag for me.  In some situations, you can have a winter storm with a low up there or without a high up there.  But in general that is NOT what you want to see.  Anytime I read about a winter storm threat or see someone posting maps or commenting on it, I immediately look to see if there is a high building in ahead of or in tandem with the precipitation.  If not, then I generally don't put a lot of stock in it, especially if it's 5+ days out.  Most of the time, highs don't just magically show up.  And most of the time, the temps look colder in the LR than they actually turn out to be, unless you're dealing with wedging and low level temps (which are driven by guess what?? High pressure!). :)

Ok, that's got to be a fabrication, right?  I don't remember that news story at all.  And, if it was posted on the site before, somebody had to make that story up, right?

Yeah, that's one of those newspaper templates you can make in Microsoft Office or something, I think.  Funny, though.

BTW for WxBell subscribers in case you haven't seen it yet...Ryan added 500mb Vorticity+Heights for the Euro per my request...he added it basically 2 minutes after I asked. Now that's loyalty to your customers! Also got him to add 10hPa+Height for the strat maps, you know, for that elusive SSWE. ;)

Wow awesome service and thanks for requesting!  I have been waiting on the 500mb vorticity + heights to be added for the euro.

No prob. He added it mid-run and it started updating at the next frame...haha, can't say I've ever seen customer service like that before...not that Allan from AmWx models wouldn't do it ;) but it was instant gratification for sure.

Ryan's a good guy.  I'm currently working on a potential mock up/easier navigation to the model website.  Things are kinda chaotic in there currently.  Trying to do it in a way that nothing breaks is another story.  Maybe I can get him to basically make a link to a "beta" page temporarily while it gets worked out so nobody/data is affected.

Yeah he's the man. Oh nice! Yeah it kinda is but I've learned where to find everything.

Hopefully can at least get all the ensembles under one header, all the gfs products under one header.  Its kind of like that now, but it's sprinkled through sporadically too.  No crazy HTML5 type navigation menus.  It'd just be laid out a tad better to find things quicker.

Waiting for him to respond on Skype so hopefully I can start to play around with it.

We'd do it if we can find a source for the extended Euro products that are halfway affordable!  If we did, we'd be all over it.. believe me!  The owner over there must have some deep pockets to turn to as you'd be spending well into the six figures to get the raw grib data direct from ECMWF for all the Euro projects they have.

If anyone knows of anybody willing to do a partnership for premium Euro grib data, we are all ears!

It's ridiculous what the Euro guys charge.  Sometimes getting into the $200,000 + range.

1300m. Lolz.

That was a good read. I believe a lot of posts were deleted though. Now if that was in this board, we would all be on 1300m side(if he was still here). Its not like every model and their ensembles are showing a storm in 10 days. The way this winter has been so far, I'll give it about a 2% chance of a winter storm in 10 days. Probably won't even be showing up on the models after tomorrow.

It's no small feat to be banned from two weather forums.  Not only that, but to ask to have it done.  :lmao:

It's a shame, too, because I enjoyed his inputs, but damn.

Meh, it's higher than a 2% chance, but a thread is no harm over there.  There really aren't hard rules about threads over there, so there's nothing wrong with starting one, especially since it was dominating the pattern discussion thread (he is right that modelling skill is terrible at a 10-day lead) and there is no set model PBP thread there.  I don't really care too much either way about the thread thing, but the way he went about it was all wrong.

Well it's over now.  He's gone from there.  And deserved because it's one thing to say you don't think a 10 day thread should be created, but it's another to be grossly abusive.

I had the fortune (or misfortune) to be reading there at the time, and yes I do believe some of the worst of it has been deleted.

On the one hand, we all know that a 10 day threat is highly unlikely to come to pass.  At the same time, on a board for weather enthusiasts, if people wanna talk fantasy about it, let them.  It isn't hurting anyone.  It's just a conversation thread, not a military operation.
