We had sleet mix in at times in heavier echos but otherwise just rain. Never have been and never will be a fan of these warm advection storms. One out of 10 work out around here but that's too few to get excited about. They're for I-90 and the Midwest and NNE.

Well, this was one where an actual warm frontal passage was a fait accompli...that's not always the case with disturbances of this type.

Obviously I'm also not in the NW NJ hills... Lol

We never had any shot here with onshore wind and a retreating cold air pool. The ones that work down here have a much deeper preceding cold airmass and a fast advancing precip shield. This one was scattered and the boundary layer heated up like a striked match.

This time it was more about the low level airmass warming. Since it rain snow mix to rain then to decent sleet says to me it had been all snow melting in the lower levels of the column. When the 850s warmed we went to sleet as 925 had been cold the whole time if that makes sense

We had a strong east fetch from water that hasn't been cooled by any arctic airmass yet. That story writes itself down here every time. If we had a cold Dec and stronger preceding cold airmass, we might have picked up a couple of inches first. The precip shield was also spotty and we could never cool the column enough for a rain sleet mix.

When a snow fan experiences a sufficient number of near misses with regards to snow versus rain (quite common in this area)...I think it can be very emotionally deflating...sort of in the same vein as say a favorite sports team that consistently snatches defeat from the jaws of victory...I think whenever something one likes is dangled before the person but kept just out of the person's reach...it leaves quite a bitter aftertaste.
