Areas outside of the metro area have already fallen below -10. MSP went calm the past hour so we will see what happens.

Did you move up there to the MSP area permanently?  Man the southeast WI crew has really lost a lot of members the last year or two.  Suckville, Bowme, Moneybags, Turtle, etc.

Wow - just checked some temps...the heat island at MSP is bad.  I never realized it was so significant.  I guess one just imagines MSP being "cold" in the winter...without realizing how much colder it can be nearby.

Its going to be fun learning the subtle features of the observation sites around here. I'm surprised to see even a 5 degree difference between STP and MSP since they are in pretty urban areas.

Yup, luckily found a job out here right away. I'm sure I will chime in if there is  anything interesting weather wise across SE WI but I'm looking forward to a new climate.

-13F or colder here...held -8F or so most of the nite... brr....coldest night yet.

Good rebound today...showing 16F.

MSP is big time heat island...but get away from city and temps plummet.

Know lots of people in MSP.  Nice city.  A lot of high school mates/wife's friends all bolted for that area.  Its very spread out.  Traffic can suck at times.

That area gets a lot of severe weather...much more then around here.

Temps ranged from -10 at MSP to -21 in some areas of east central Minnesota. There was even a -18 temp in Iowa.

Will be interesting to see how cold we get tonight.  Short range guidance (HRRR/RAP) is really aggressive, suggesting around -10F or even colder, which is probably overdone.  But as mentioned yesterday, this looks like a more favorable setup for radiational cooling potential than some of those other nights.

IND doesn't have us going below zero (p&c and zone forecast min is 1˚).

Regardless...if it goes like this morning did, I'll go LAF -2˚, KTIM -3˚, blue -4˚

I don't know, I think LAF has a pretty good chance of beating you in this setup...it usually does pretty well with these expected conditions.  Could get a several hour period of calm/near calm later.

Probably.

I can count on one hand, and probably not use two fingers, how many times I've had a min temp lower than LAF. Strange stuff.

Even steven right now...11˚ vs 11˚. May the best thermometer win. :D

LAF just toying with you, playing down to the level of competition.  Pedal to the metal later.  :D
