So we actually have a decent clipper train to watch over the next couple weeks. The GEM is particularly robust with some of these, but all of the globals have them. Maybe if we get a similar south trend to develop over the next few days as with the event we'll see tomorrow night, we can make something out of these for the big cities. More high-ratio events will definitely be more than just stat-padders.

Well it feels like a tundra outside. Snow dust and blowing snow fell most of the overnight apparently, about 0.2" (though of course its blowing everywhere), so we had exactly 1 inch of snow total (both here & DTW), and it's now crunchy and squeaky in the bitter cold air. DTX still going 1-2" tonight, if I can squeak out 2" Ill be thrilled. Even 1" would give me 2" on the ground, so last nights overperformer (expected a dusting of a few tenths) helped set a base down.

And dont look now, but as has been mentioned, confidence is growing in a clipper Thursday night & another round of snow Sunday. Nothing like another model week of mayhem...at least now theres snow on the ground!

Some impressive cold this morning up here. My low was -18 but a few places got colder.

Currently a balmy -10 at noon.

On a side note, this weekend I crossed the 100" mark in snow. Quite a bit se of me MQT sits at 90" now. This time last year, MQT was at 78" and they still made it to right around 200" (even with the lake freezing up). I feel confident of a season total around 200-250" up here in the hills.

Just for fun stats for Detroit.

Normal season snowfall - 42.7"

Most season snow on record - 94.9" in 2013-14

Least season snow on record - 12.9" in 1936-37

Normal snowfall thru Jan 6 --- 13.6"

2014-15 snowfall thru Jan 6 --  6.1"

2013-14 snowfall thru Jan 6 - 38.5"

Most snow thru Jan 6 - 44.4" in 1974-75 (season ended up with 63.1")

Least snow thru Jan 6 - 1.0" in 1889-90 (season ended up with 15.8")

Since 1880-81, there have been 17 seasons with less snow thru Jan 6 than 2014-15. However with 9 snowcover days (1"+) and counting for the foreseeable future, this season is nowhere near any futility marks for snowcover.

Normal snowfall Jan 7 thru the end of the season - 29.1"

2013-14 snowfall Jan 7 thru end of the season ---- 56.4"

2014-15 snowfall Jan 7 thru end of the season ---- TBD

Most snow Jan 7 thru end of season - 65.1" in 1899-00 (season ended up with 69.1"...so yes...there was only 4.0" as of Jan 6)

Least snow Jan 7 thru end of season - 6.5" in 1968-69 (season ended up with 17.1", Detroits last sub-20" season)
