a chilly 11 this morning, but pretty much normal for this time of year. snowed 2.5" during the night and still coming down. maybe another inch or two. exciting to watch the EC storm unfold in their threads... some are complaining they may only get 12-18". I never will understand east coasters. :D

weather weenies always have unrealistic expectations. We see it every year on the boards. ECers complain all winter when it never snows, praying for a cartop dusting, then a noreaster is modeled and suddenly 12-18" is complaint worthy. Midwesterners complain about too many little puppies & not enough big dogs. I can understand being jealous (I know i am) but neither climate is going to change lol. Last winter it seemed like a 6-12" storm was happening every 1-2 weeks. This year most would be happy if we can sneak a 3-6"er in whats been a 2-4"er assembly line.

I cant believe how your area gets a couple inches every day lol. I couldn't believe how unimpressive the snow depths are in most of the UP (relatively speaking of course) but its like you are in a real life snow globe.

The nice depths are the shoreline counties.  I have on average about 36".  There was some freezing rain and then temps of 34 2 days ago so it compacted things some.  It's odd here.  It will snow this time of year even when snow isn't really forecasted.  An inch on most days is pretty common. The past 30 min have been under a pretty heavy band.  Just took this, it's is the original 1922 cabin on the back edge of my property.

That was what I loved up there ... it snowed just for the sake of snow. :)

Today marks the start of the 2nd half of the snow season. Climatologically, half of the winter's snow should have fallen, with half yet to come (of course, rarely does the weather follow the rules).

Through Jan 25th at Detroit....

2014-15 to date...17.4"

normal to date.....21.3"

2013-14 to date...48.6" wub.png

Least snow in a snow season thru Jan 25th.....2.6" in 1889-90 (season ended at 15.8", 6th least snowy on record)

Most snow in a snow season thru Jan 25th....48.6" in 2013-14 (season ended at 94.9", snowiest on record)
