Just had a legit strike thunder/lightning here. Wonder how many Christmases past have featured that. 

1889 & 1982 had well document thunderstorms accompanied by record temps in the 60s....1965 had a flooding rainstorm drop 2-4" of rain over SE MI (changed to an inch or less of snow on Christmas day with 50mph winds and flooded basments) but Im not sure if any thunder was seen (that rainstorm had temps starting high in the 40s and falling through the 30s). Its rare to have thunder (even though we only saw a few claps) with temps as "cool" as they are tonight.

This changeover has been very impressive so far. With such a marginal airmass in place, it was supposed to take much stronger forcing to change to snow, but that hasn't been the case. Maybe some dry air snuck in the boundary layer and we got a little evap action going. I am not complaining.

Wow just had some monster snowflakes almost silver dollar size! took a bunch of pics and some vids :)

4 individual snowflakes I caught on my arm shows how big they were pretty well, I have really big arms too.

That is awesome. Given the environment we were handed, consider those flakes a Christmas miracle.
