Powerball
I have just sHowes out on Harden Island. Do you mean Harsens Island? If so, the thunder/lighting may be coming. It's from the yellow returns over SW Ontario heading over Lake St. Clair.

smoof
Just changing over to some big huge wet flakes here now, looks like the changeover might be an hour or so ahead of schedule for quite a few.

smoof
HRRR has been slowly trending higher with snow totals each run for the last 5 or so, but since this is a 10:1 ratio chart it will be lower than it says being such wet cement.
Rainman
Ratios can be surprisingly high in convection, which is certainly possible with this. Some spots could see 11 to 1 if they are lucky.
michsnowfreak
Just had a legit strike thunder/lightning here. Wonder how many Christmases past have featured that. 1889 & 1982 had well document thunderstorms accompanied by record temps in the 60s....1965 had a flooding rainstorm drop 2-4" of rain over SE MI (changed to an inch or less of snow on Christmas day with 50mph winds and flooded basments) but Im not sure if any thunder was seen (that rainstorm had temps starting high in the 40s and falling through the 30s). Its rare to have thunder (even though we only saw a few claps) with temps as "cool" as they are tonight.

Rainman
This changeover has been very impressive so far. With such a marginal airmass in place, it was supposed to take much stronger forcing to change to snow, but that hasn't been the case. Maybe some dry air snuck in the boundary layer and we got a little evap action going. I am not complaining.
smoof
It's been snowing for almost 3 hours here and I'm just now getting a tiny bit of slush on my deck and grass, surfaces must have been really warm.

Rainman
The advisory for SE Michigan is dependent on a jet induced frontal circulation developing within the deformation which has yet to take shape. Without it, the advisory stands a good chance of busting low.
Rainman
The deformation is rapidly exiting. The beginning of the end for the subforum's greatest snowstorm of December 2014.
