nice write up.  too bad we couldn't get this to explode a little sooner.

 

 

Still time, still time...

 

If '78 is going to be mentioned with the upcoming storm, then I think it's important to point out to the casual/less knowledgeable folks that barring some big change, the sensible weather for most of us won't be nearly as bad.

I've always thought it would be interesting to see how models today would have handled Jan'78.

haha, yeah.  The main model back then (LFM) flagged a significant storm but underestimated the strength and was off on the track I think.  By 1978 model standards, maybe it wasn't too bad.
