Calendar year snowfall

This doesn't mean much since a calendar year is a weird combination of two different winters, but the recent 1" in NYC put us at 50.0" for 2014 (Jan-Dec). That is 14th all-time. (It was actually already 14th at the end of February last year. We've had almost no snow since then).

We need 2.9" the rest of the month to break into the top 10. Anything higher than #9 will require a SECS/MECS

Here is the top 14.

Year Snowfall

1896 - 64.0

1996 - 61.3

2010 - 59.1

1948 - 58.9

1947 - 58.9

2003 - 58.1

1907 - 57.2

1916 - 57.1

1923 - 52.9

1978 - 52.8

1883 - 52.5

1967 - 51.1

1917 - 50.6

2014 - 50.0

With about 150 years of records and only 14 seasons / years breaking the 50 inch barrier per your method...a sub 10 % rate...might give one pause to forecast huge seasonal snow totals for a station that rarely sees them.

Only 16 have broken 50" using seasonal, so it isn't just the calendar year.

Yh....Do you know where 2014 stands in the list for top January/February snowfall? Since it was #14 already just including those 2 months, I am sure it puts it much higher as far as that goes. Most other years I'm sure there was at least another few inches in March and then December later that year

Even though there were no blockbuster KU snowfall events, 2014 was truly a historic year for snowfall in NYC and the surrounding areas.
