Mixed rain & snow continues to fall in the Mt Sinai area of north central Suffolk at the moment...once again symptomatic of the almost dual problematic nature of getting good snows out here...especially prior to about mid January...the fact that the low has lingered rather than quickly pulled away has allowed the moisture to remain, but concurrently *not* allowed cold air to be drawn in on the backside...had the low moved away rapidly, colder air would have been brought down much faster...but the moisture would have been quickly shunted off to the east...as they say, damned if you do; damned if you don't.

With a current temperature of 38 F in New Haven (though winds have backed around to the NW there) and 42 F in Providence...the disadvantageous nature of being off to the NE is illustrated when a somewhat atypical swath is cut by a storm like this one.

it's still snowing to beat the band here in the nw bronx, that weenie band is straddling the bronx, northern queens, and the north shore of l.i..almost 3 hours of snow and a good inch plus out here in the northern bronx.notice that band is pretty much stationary . :snowing:

So its snowing "to beat the band" for the past 3 hrs yet you only have an inch plus out there?

I can tell you the contest for NYC should now be over...the CPK observer however may say differently...LGA is reporting 1 inch now...whether thats 0.5 or 1.0 I don't know

Must be quite a ratio there given that they have reported only 0.01" precip in the last 6 hours...made even more bizarre by the near freezing temps.

Looks like it's about to stop snowing very soon. It's unfortunate it didn't snow all night instead of all day when it didn't accumulate. Too bad that snow up north doesn't look like it's going to make it into the NYC metro area!!!
