rcad1
That band looks to miss NYC and points east to the west. Looks to be moving ssw. LI is just getting drizzle off the sound it looks like
IsentropicLift
Looks to be going more SSW at the moment Yes, it's not really moving SSW, more like falling apart and redeveloping further West.
Stormlover74
Yes, it's not really moving SSW, more like falling apart and redeveloping further West. Well that too. When I posted that it was expanding but now its weakening. Getting some flurries here finally.

NorthShoreWx
It does look like perhaps the north shore of LI could receive some sound enhanced precipitation. The light precipitation along the north shore might be more orographic in nature. 100 or 200 feet of "upslope" plus the effects of frictional convergence along the shore line could be enough to cause this light precipitation. I suppose you could call that sound enhancement, but it probably isn't an LES like process this time. DeltaT might be close to 10C which is enough in a salt water environment, but the difference between the boundary temps and water temps really isn't much this morning and the fact that the layer is nearly saturated doesn't help either. PS, I think this effect is significant over the long haul and contributes to our snow fall totals (and probably explains why the north shore averages more snowfall than the immediate coast of CT). True OES/SES is very rare. The only time I have observed what I would consider a fairly pure OES event was on January 14, 1999 when a single streamer lingered over the Port Washington area (northwestern Nassau County) for mush of the day and dropped about 6 inches of very light fluffy snow while the rest of the region had flurries. There was an exceptional OES event along the Massachusetts coast that same day. Here is a small case study of a sound enhanced / orographic event along the north shore in 2002 (one of the more interesting events that lame winter): http://www.northshorewx.com/LES20020107Case.asp

BxWeatherwatcher
n.y.c seems to be in no mans's land regarding precip, but all that up north has to rotate back down and to the se eventually so it's gonna snow eventually.the surface low itself is really seems to be tapping that atlantic moisture once again and this baby is starting to really wrap up tight and consolidating itself.currently raining in caribou maine, snowing in and around n.y.c. TwcMan
The intensity is really bi-polar lol. One second it's coming down lightly/moderately...next second almost nothing and literally 5-10 seconds later it's back to being heavier. It's been like this for the past half-hour

Area forecast discussion National Weather Service New York New York 1153 am EST Wednesday Dec 10 2014 Synopsis... low pressure over southeast New England will gradually drift north into northern New England through Friday. The low finally exits over the weekend...allowing high pressure to build in through the beginning of next week. && Near term /until 6 PM this evening/... Band of snow developed across western locales. This is not unexpected...but always tough and a challenge to forecast where these bands set up. All we can do is wait and see.
