Pretty arctic right now...it's just too bad this hits on Tuesday instead of tonight like some of the original model guidance last week. If it had come into this airmass tonight, that would have been a monster snow event.

Arnold214
Currently trying to figure out if and how bad the freezing drizzle may be for tonight (mon night into early Tue) before the column fully saturates. Soundings say it could be bad in SNE and CNE unless somehow we generate snowflakes with a little salt infusion I guess. Oceanstatewx is currently getting undressed looking at the euro as I speak. More later...
CoastalWx
Oh man it will be fun to hear MPM whine about shoveling this snow and ice Yeah while most of us see rain. He'll get upset over getting 8" of snow instead of 11".

More later... I'd bet dollars to donuts too that model guidance scours out the sfc cold too quickly as well when the main precip shield arrives...which could be a mess if the mid-levels warm quickly. More later... I was mentioning that for a couple of days. That could be pretty bad in spots since the surfaces are so dam cold. Nobody has really said anything about it, but it has that look. Hoping for a little snow here tomorrow prior to marine taint.

If it had come into this airmass tonight, that would have been a monster snow event. Even for the coastal plain? I mean I'm realistic, the odds of Cape Cod getting accumulating snows this early on in the season is pretty rare, but within an another two weeks we could get in more favorable environment for snowfall if the GFS ENS mean is correct with a trough entering the Eastern US. Water Vapor imagery shows how amazing this phase will be.
CoastalWx
BTV WRF looked really icy even with main shield moving in. No freaking way it erodes that quick on some of those models.
jamesnichols89
Looking at the Infrared satellite imagery of the NE CONUS sector on adds satellite, you can see the northeasterly cold surface low occurring over the relatively warm waters to the northeast of Cape Cod producing the ocean effect clouds. Yeah...The high moves off but we know how that low level cold likes to stay. It's 8 degrees here at the office with wind still...cold stuff. I may just have to issue my first watch for cheshire and hillsborough counties in like 4 years.
Logan11
We kinda knew that was gonna happen because certain places are snow magnets. Looks very good here also. Yeah definitely some downsloping a bit with strong erly flow. Meanwhile, euro smokes NW berks now.
jamesnichols89
Round 3 on Saturday? ULL stays over New England with a new surface low southeast of New England with 850mb temps below zero.
Logan11
So after the initial big WAA snow moves up...the defomation on the Euro sets up west of the Hudson Valley. I would think that could hit pretty good in those areas, but the qpf shown on the model is underwhelming. I think that is under represnted in qpf lots of times. moneypitmike
By far the coolest morning of the early season. Setting the stage?? About to head to BDL, no time to ready up on things this morning. Watch up? Surprised to see that. Must be some good reading ahead! Enjoy the storm, folks. Save some lingering snow for Thursday afternoon, please. 9.7/

powderfreak
-3F and crisp at 750ft. Really strong inversion at around 2,000ft...its +10F at 2,600ft. Front end thump looks good to go. I wonder if someone gets a lot of sleet in this too if some sneaky warm layers go out in front of the main precip shield.
