Meteorological winter obs and discussion

The other thread seems very forecast-oriented, so I figured I'd start a new one for obs, nowcasting, stuff like that.

Heavy fog in my neighborhood at the moment... visibilities under 100 yards, especially on hilltops.

Yeah there was some serious fog around above 1000'.. Was on 84 near Port Jervis and vis dropped to about 100ft .

Current temp of 34f

I haven't seen any here but good for you!

That's you're 4th day with snow in the air this week!

Torch said what?

Tonight's was utterly meaningless, if that helps.

Heck of a way to run a torch though.  I said something like this talking about the warm first half of January in 2005:

"However, to those not fond of snow, it was a heck of a way to run a mild winter as more than once during the warm spell minor snowfalls materialized in conditions just barely cold enough to produce snow."

It was fun when I had more time to work on that website, although I don't miss the long train rides where most of the work got done..  One of these days.  The knowledge that I need to re-architect it is holding me back.

Temps. today (Sat. 12/13) seem to be running way above SREF by about 5 degs. as of 1pm.   43-44 here near water in Coney Island.  The 850mb was about 2-3C below avg. for date this morning  -5C instead of -2C to -3C,  is not making a difference.

Drizzle here

Have you ever considered changing your screename to WantaghSurfFreak?  I know it would help me immeasurably when I see you post an observation.

Having spent many years living in Plainview, I recall plenty of visits to the county park in Wantagh for swimming & bicycle riding...*really* nice park.

Not much of difference between wantagh and lb. having lived 7 years in long beach and 21 in wantagh (4 in townson Maryland) the extreme south shore is a singular snow hole

For reference I am three blocks from said park. Thus you know how big of a maritime influence I have. And yes it's a nice park if you haven't been in a while they did an 8,000,000 renovation of the pool about ten years ago. Very nice now
