Winter 2014-15 Banter Thread

Look, you post some meaningful stuff. But with all due respect, you are a tad irritable. Take it down a notch. Can't get bent out of shape over comments. Look at Snow88, people throw jabs at him all the time and he never hits back. Ok he's a big snow weenie but still....most of us are or we wouldn't be here. Me, I'm only here in the winter, unless a huge hurricane is coming, and that ain't often.

I'll just keep my posts to NW burbs forum cause as soon as models start trending out of someone's favor it's instantly hostile in those storm threads.. if the nam showed 2 feet for those couple of guys they would be spitting some nonsense about how it's a viable solution... The burbs and city bickering is redic and I'm over it lol

Maybe it will find a home here; having been safely minimized by me...

I look at the ECMWF, GFS, NAM, GGEM, RGEM, GEM-LAM (great is short range for snow precision)...I don't really look at the UKMET much, I do look at the ARW & NNM (which nailed Monday's cutoff)....the HRRR & RAP in the short range)...and I once lived & died with the SUNY MM5...the best rain / snow line model ever...but it seems to have been discontinued. You can end up looking at too many...as was the case on Monday...the ensembles (mainly GFS) I check occasionally...but it can get to be too much.

You know, I suffer from an ulcer...and after all those perfectly reasonable posts of mine were sent to the garbage bin...including the one you quoted that I was able to rescue...its been hurting ever since...that was not such a nice thing to do.

Does anyone think we can lock Arctic air for most of Feb, and have 5 or less days above freezing.

My guess for above freezing days in Feb 2015

2/4/2015

2/16/2015

2/26-2/28

All other days below freezing.  NYC departure -5.3 F

No, but I think there is a good chance that the minimum temperature for almost every day in February will be below freezing...so you have that going for you...which is nice.

Perhaps one of the most important lessons in my life was taught to me by a cab driver in the Bronx in the 1980 film Night of the Juggler. She told her passenger James Brolin, "You push too hard...people gonna push back."  Words to live by.

I read last night that the RPM model is basically a down scaled version of the WRF model. It definitely nailed the sharp cutoff on Monday night.

well said ..another good one ..is " don't take my kindness for weakness ".

The *very* best however, was given by the counselor to inmate Sean Penn at an Illinois Reformatory in the 1982 flic Bad Boys.

"Now I suggest you stay cool...because if you f up...the only one you will be f'en up is you.  You've got 6 months to go before your review.  Do your time clean and you walk.  Mess up, and you can grow old in here jack."

After a slow start , will finish up January with 16.9" of snow here...with most of that falling since the 24th.

since 2011 NYC was averaging 15.4" for January...this year has 15.3" so far keeping the average intact...If NYC didn't get any more snow for January over the next five years it would end up average for the ten years...

Wow that was such an underrated movie, it has sort of come back a bit on cable in recent years. I actually was a social worker in Essex county's juvie. What a depressing place.

Well last week I wasted a weekend following a busted blizzard. Now it looks like it is going to find a way to not snow here again. 10 freaking degrees out today, as cold a winter as you could ask for,yet we get rain and sleet. I am ready for spring. ice storms are just a pain and are dangerous. I have to worry about power outages and basement flood, trying to get a generator started and they put the damn sparkplugs in places where you can't get to them. I would rather live in the tropics then deal with ice storms, much as I love thesnow.
