I think the dumb models do best on this pattern because they don't focus on the details....im going with whatever model is the least smarterer

Not a bad philosophy.. along those lines how you feeling about the upcoming pattern?

I think we will. If it's going to be like this today, we might as well hit 60 with some thunder. Woooo winter thunderstorms

The craziest winter thunderstorms I can remember were 1/30/2013... 70 degrees and a tornado watch with an incoming squall line... I had to keep telling myself it wasn't April or May :lmao:

The pouring rain in 09 was far worse than today. I remember watching the snow and mud wash down the sewer and thinking "i'm not sure this is worthy of calling a white Xmas"

It also poured in that '86 event that High Stakes mentioned. I think I picked up over 2" of heavy rain in Silver Spring in that storm.

That was sickening.  19" of snow and it didn't even last a week.  I think that might be part of the reason why I don't consider Dec. 09 in the same boat as Feb. 10.

The rug was pulled out from under all of those in Chicagoland today. From model promises of a white Christmas to a fog entrenched bog.

Chicago is a very stressful place to be a snow weenie... not as bad as DC, but for a place that has a reputation of getting harsh winters, they get screwed quite often.

Nah, misery would be having the same weather but facing an upcoming Pac jet disaster. I'm feeling great today and haven't even had a beer yet.

I was watching Xmas Vacation when I posted. I do like the fact that you are feeling great and I must say you always try to bring people out of weather misery. Hats off to you sir!

No, not really. They've had > 50" in 5 of the last 7 years, including 82" last year. Their average is 38", which they reach or surpass, on average, about every other season in the last 40 years. The two cities are worlds apart wrt snow.

They've done well in recent years, but I can recall many examples of them getting screwed over while Milwaukee or other places not very far did much better.

I agree that they're worlds apart from DC and I wasn't comparing the two.

That would make sense. Milwaukee is further north and averages more snow than Chicago.

Chicago may get more snow, but they fall short in the "big storm" department. Chicago has never seen a snowfall greater than 23", and they've only had 5 greater than 18".

While true, they've also had 15 seasons in the last 50 years with > 50". I'll trade that kind of consistency for the few really big storms the DC area has seen.
