MacChump
in the end does it really matter? my family will be just as annoying, and i'll be just as drunk, whether it's snowing or torchering on Christmas...
Bob Chill
I'm 32* at 6:30pm the night before a snowstorm was supposed to start. Temps won't be a problem

AvantHiatus
Crazy to go from record cold and snow on Thanksgiving to wind swept heavy rain and highs 20 degrees above normal at Christmas. The extreme run took break and now it's back for more. http://www.gizmag.com/supercomputers-climate-models-simulate-extreme-weather/34726/

87storms
Las Vegas is the definition of sucking at snow. DC is paradise. The funny part of this is that im in vegas right now and can see snowcapped mountains
AvantHiatus
Radar looks to me like the precip is booking east like the models show. The top edge of the precip shield is ragged and getting torn up. http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/4/46739/1518708-cool_story_bro.png
AlaskaETC
The funny part of this is that im in vegas right now and can see snowcapped mountains Yeah, the higher elevations in Nevada can get snow easily. You're probably looking at Mt. Charleston. The Mojave/Great Basin isn't that much of a stranger to snow cover. Conditions just have to be right. BristowWx
Guessing the GFS sucks again. Not seeing anyone commenting? The 6z GFS looks wretched to me. There may be a pattern change but don't even see fantasy snow chances on it.

I wouldn't worry about any specific storms over 200 hours away. The pattern is what matters.
CAPE
The 6z GFS looks wretched to me. There may be a pattern change but don't even see fantasy snow chances on it. Cold first. Snow chances will follow. Many times the threats that end up producing dont show up on op guidance at longer leads...and when they do, they disintegrate. CAPE
For those that are canceling winter because December hasnt produced, whining that a third of winter is being wasted...well that is pretty much the norm around here esp from cities east. Why expect otherwise? This isnt CNE. Generally we get a week or maybe 2 in Dec, then prime time in Jan, Feb, and a week or 2 in March for snow ops. Last winter I had an inch in Dec, then Jan rocked and pretty much kept going through most of March. I still think we could end up scoring something towards the end of the month. Bob Chill
Both the gfs and pgfs show a storm possibility on the 30-31st. If the euro shows it today we should start a thread.
