Just depends on how you define "torch" I suppose. Several level-headed posters noted that we were going to get into warmer regime, and the temps are running +2 at the airports right now, so that has verified. But I suppose it isn't a "torch" since we haven't really had a succession of days with highs in the 60s, say.

I know that one interloper from NJ was screaming torch, but that may have been tied to his global warming agenda dealie.

yeah, sounds about right. i could go for a super torch.. we're so due.

All I ever said was the pattern sucks for organized snow chances and it will be a seesaw with temps. We're benefiting from cooler highs through shallow hp and clouds. It's still ugly. The plains are going to put up some decent +departures and I also think we'll score some warm days going forward as well. But that's typical. The bottom line is the first 2-3 weeks of Dec look bad for snow. Temps are secondary.

Right. I'm with you. I think torch just got tangled up around here somehow. Now not having a string of days in the 70s is a victory or something.

That's Weatherguy.  He's still waiting on that P/T extinction.

Then's there's TeleconnectDUH who drops in to tell us it will never snow here again.

I'm not even going to be greedy this year. I would be happy with 50% of what I got last year. I just don't want it to be warm/wet. We have to deal with that enough during the other 9 months of the year. I don't want it in winter.

K has gotten super excited the few times its snowed so far. Both times, we've picked her up from daycare and as soon as we get outside she is "SNOW!"

which of course, makes me super happy. so i want at least one, good storm she can go out and play in. she wasn't sure of what it was last year.

Listening to The Nutcracker Suite in preparation for putting lights on the family tree and it just started snowing. Waiting on the repair man to figure out my stove and hope to get holiday goodies baking soon.  :santa:

Sounds great!  We decorated cookies on Saturday - too bad snow wasn't falling out of the sky instead of rain that day.  :)

Reading between the lines a little, I'm pretty sure HM is calling for a parade of southern-stream HECS starting at the end of the month.

Can't recall last time I saw him this giddy. I think the doom and gloom in this forum was a bit silly in the closing days of November and first week of December. If this is the best the "horrible furnace pattern" can do we are in good shape.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited after reading HM's comments in the med/lr thread.  Dare I say the excitement reminds me of 09/10.

Torch, furnace, blazing inferno, roasting pan, hellfire - all gone!

(just goading Ian)

I can't wait till this tiny persistent cold bubble moves away from our part of earth. Real torch will be so fine.

small plane crash into a house off the end of KGAI (MoCo) airport. Wind direction would suggest takeoff issues.

Damage path was consistent with takeoff problems (strewn to the northwest). I took a video... facing northeast, with the Airpark to my right.

Closeup of the plane (or what's left) in front of one of the homes:

Cool video and picture.  I feel badly for all involved.  And why does this stuff always seem to happen right around the holidays?

"Authorities said the plane was preliminarily identified as a private jet owned by an aviation company based in Chapel Hill, N.C. It reportedly had turned on final approach to land at the nearby airpark, just behind a Cessna 172 propeller-driven plane.

The jet that crashed was a twin-engine Embraer EMB-500/Phenom 100, which can carry four to six passengers. The incident was reported about 11 a.m. The Federal Aviation Administration and the NTSB will investigate."
