CherokeeGA
The temperature is skyrocketing. 10 degrees in the last hour to 61F. So Christmasy. Shorts, t-shirt, and it's still stuffy. And it's only 43 down here. Low of 38. Shaping up to be yet another strange winter in a string of strange winters.
superjames1992
I just had to turn the a/c on in my house on Christmas Eve at night. Lovely. This truly is an epic winter pattern to deliver us low to mid 60s at night.

mackerel_sky
GFS dumpster fire continues! Of course the runs are rock solid/consistant when it's showing cold dump in the west and we keep up the normal temps

weatherfide
There is nothing close to a snow storm in my area over the next 7 days, but copious amounts of rain! I think this is a really good thing since it's been so dry this month. We do need some more cold temps, though, to keep the plants dormant. I've already got hydrangea's sprouting leaves! superjames1992
In a sense, it seems unrealistic that the ULL will sit in the SW for days. On the other hand, when every model is all-in with the idea, I have to seriously reconsider... The "holding energy back in the SW" bias is one we love to throw around to keep hope alive, but I'm not sure it's always warranted. Will the Euro save Christmas in an hour? The holding back energy in the SW is a Euro bias thing. I think we're reaching a little bit in attributing it to the rest of the models.
tnweathernut
The holding back energy in the SW is a Euro bias thing. I think we're reaching a little bit in attributing it to the rest of the models. I think it's pretty much a lock to go there for a period of time. The question becomes more about what happens when it finally comes out. I have always hated the "can't sit there bc of the trough east of Hawaii" talk.......... tazaroo
But it can't stay burried in the SW with the trough east of Hawaii right???
packbacker
This is getting a little bit ridiculous now. It's going to be a while before we see snow. A few weeks, atleast.

We should be able to squeeze in a 2" slop storm in mid-March once the pattern starts rockin'. I kid, I kid...

tazaroo
Just think, yesterday we couldn't have drawn better looking cold maps than the models were putting out. I admit this back and forth this year seems worse and more extreme than when I use to look at the eta and mrf. Ridiculous.

Jon
I think it's pretty much a lock to go there for a period of time. The question becomes more about what happens when it finally comes out. I have always hated the "can't sit there bc of the trough east of Hawaii" talk.......... We'll see. The trough east/west of Hawaii and the corresponding trough/ridge in the east coast, respectively, has been said for years and years. I mean it makes sense, for me I think the models will start correcting east with time just because of that trough, what worries me is if a trough west of Hawaii starts to show instead the we are toast.
