He must have been driving on 485, that place is cray cray !

Details are few at the moment, but the crash included Newton’s car flipped over on a bridge and another involved, near the intersection of Church Street and I-277, close to Bank of America Stadium.

Dianne Gallagher of WCNC has a photograph of Newton being loaded into an ambulance, and Chris Littman of the Sporting Newshas a photo of Newton’s truck after it was flipped over, the top flattened.

James Spann is very good and very informative. He is a prime time TV met in Birmingham that also updates his blog 2-3 times daily and post usually 2 videos a day (Free!!). With that said, he readily admits that he considers anything beyond 6 or 7 days voodoo and very difficult to predict. It has also been my experience that he relies very heavily on the GFS in his forecasts. He even sometimes explains a forecast as being a result of what the GFS is currently showing. Obviously, we all know relying too heavily on the GFS beyond a few days can lead to busted forecasts. Look at the NE this week and what the GFS was showing just a few days ago. I am not calling for NAO or AO to go into the tank any time soon. Hopefully we will begin moving in a negative direction soon. I think the most recent few runs of the GFS would support Spann's claim and probably be the reasoning behind his statement.

is there a reason why he leans so heavily on the GFS ? Is it because it is more accurate than any other model ?

Good news.

CMPD source says no injuries to Cam Newton. He did not want to be transported. Taken to hospital as a precaution.

Conflicting reports at the moment.  I wouldn't be so sure about him being fine yet.  But since Cam is superman he probably just walked away from this accident.

This poster has it nailed.  lolz

Being optimistic is overrated haha. I actually started posting on these weather boards way back on WWBB in high school. Made the jump to EUSWX when things were really booming.

Then came our AmericanWx. I hadn't posted in years. Probably since 2010ish.

I remember so many old names. Marcus, RandyTracker, JohnWow, Jeremy, Brandon, Allan, Eek, Mr Bob, Ian (forkyfork!) SacrydDreamz (Randy), Sandy and so many others.

But I'm still lurking around. My screen name used to be Jonathan416.

If you recall, Tony Romo had a transverse fracture in his back and missed just one game. Cam Newton has of those two fractures

"After the two vehicles collided, Douglas said Cam's truck flipped four times before landing on its side."

It takes some speed to cause a truck to flip four times.  I'd have to think that Cam was speeding when the other car pulled out in front of him.  Most serious accidents involve at least two screw ups.

My guess is, knowing where that is, cam couldn't have been going too fast. I'm thinking he made a right off Second/MLK and was about to head up the hill and over the 277 bridge and the Buick ran the stop sign. It happens all the time there. That's not to say that cam couldn't have been speeding but that's a fairly short distance from where he made the right and where the crash occurred.

I am not sure of a couple things.

1.)  I am not sure why Spann relies so heavily on the GFS. Maybe because he is usually more concerned with forecasting inside 5 days and the GFS is "usually" more consistent in that time frame.

2.) I am also not sure how this ended up in the Banter thread when the discussion I was responding to was in the other thread. Could have been me trying to work and keep up with the weather discussion at the same time.

Most of Spann's looks at the LR are based on GFS models. If you do that and rely heavily on it, you are at the mercy of it's flaws. On the other hand, he references the LR as Voodoo land. Even when he throws an LR idea out there, he is rarely telling you to take it to the bank.
