GaWx
No WOTY contest this year. Very sad. It had been a very important part of the holiday season for a number of years in a row for many of us and it was exciting to see all of the intense campaigning by and for the various candidates just before New Year's. Oh well, Brick will always be your weenie, my weenie, and most importantly of all, the People's Weenie (which was removed from his profile for whatever reason..maybe because his posts have been so good lately and not weenieish). Brick Tamland
I think I might have to go with Webber over Marietta. I have no idea what Webber says, but it sounds very smart.
Brick Tamland
Ok, that's fine, but it would have been nice if you actually presented evidence of the SE US ridge's *anomalous* existence instead of erroneously referring back to the models
rduwx
I miss him Yeah, he should of been a career Bear. I don't think Trestman utilized him at the WR position like he should.

Brick, please don't try and stir up something... Between you and SJ it seems like you guys wish that something would blow up. I'm not going to start WW3 over a SE ridge that wasn't even really what my OP was talking about. I will say this though. The post you just quoted is wrong on a few levels but I'm not going to engage the guy any longer. Having a discussion with that guy is not going to end well. Either you agree with him or you are stupid and/or don't get it.
Cold Rain
Fireworks are about to go off in the main thread. We need snow in a bad way. I have yet to see a debate this year in this forum without somebody or everybody getting their panties in a wad.

I do agree though that what is there argues for ice if something can pop vs. snow...but if we can get cold air into the eastern US the SE ridge is nowhere to stop it from being cold at the surface at least. That -PNA though is a problem that needs to be fixed ASAP.
calculus1
I don't know how it's possible to "agree to disagree" regarding facts. It's one thing to "agree to disagree" on matters of opinion, such as what color sweater goes best with your jeans, but it's an entirely different thing to "agree to disagree" on whether the sun is shining, for instance. I disengaged, not because I didn't have anything else to say. I disengaged because of what I said a few posts back. It just isn't worth it.....and I could see he wasn't changing my mind and I wasn't going to be able to change his. So what's the point of continuing, jmo. Isopycnic
I won't be worried until we are in February. Last winter I didn't get any snow until the last week of January and ended up getting a couple more after that, and ended up at average. And things looked really bad last winter until that first snow. I was hoping we would have something by now. But it's not even January yet. The models are all over the place. Things can change quickly here. Even if we don't get anything until the end of January or beginning of February, if we just get a couple of events and one big one, that still would be good and could end up being above average. weird formatting... calculus1
But if it's cloudy.... I guess I could have used a better example of a non-opinionated question, such as whether or not mathematics is the most important subject of study in one's academic career. I mean, that's obvious. Right? No room for opinion on that one.

calculus1
In a forum far, far away. Allow me to finish it for you: A long time ago, in a forum far, far away.... It is a period of civil war. Optimistic winter- weather lovers, striking with the use of actual facts, have won their first victory against the evil Warminista Regime. During the battle, an informed poster managed to debase the secret plans to the Warministas' ultimate weapon, the infamous SE Ridge, an unyielding anomaly with enough power to destroy an entire SE winter, yet it's power has been lacking, to date. Pursued by the Warministas' sinister agents, webberweather furiously dispenses knowledge, custodian of the 500mb data that can save his fellow posters and restore calm to the forum.... Anyway, I tried...
