2014/15 Winter Banter and General Observations

It certainly takes longer than 15 minutes around the morning commute.....and hitting Boston City limits doesn't count! We're talking downtown where people work

I remember when I lived in NY, it was so neat being able to do so much stuff.  Guess how much of it I actually did.

I have a 45 minute drive to Target.  Do I need to be closer to Target?  I don't think so.  A half hour into Northampton if I'm going to a show or dinner.  Hardly a chore.

I'd summer in Florida, but winter in NE

So a backwards /reverse "snow bird"

After about 11 summers in Florida , i had my fill. I was down in SE fl coast and if you like the clear ocean there are so many beautiful spots, i actually proffered the beach in Spring and Fall, thou i mean it depends what i was going to the beach for. Went to beach almost every day one year.

Having the excitement of "cane" season was always awesome. I'm sure you could really shake up the neighborhood wives with your forecasts of impending destruction from potential cat 4-5 storms.

The problem this year(so far anyways), is that alot of these systems look half way decent for a lil while(1,2 maybe 3 inches for SNE), and then as we close in(like we are now-3 days to the event) the modeling goes against us and we end up with a few flakes/pellets and a cold/warm rain.

And now we have a very cold airmass in here, that appears to now be going bye bye as the system pumps in Warmth.  Yesterday things were trending nicely for a lil more frozen precip(mind you nobody was thinking 4-8 or 6-10 for SNE), 1-3 for south of the pike and some frozen after that. That idea is quickly fading now with the Euro run at 0z, and now the 12z GFS following that.

I think most are trying to stay positive(I know I am), but each event has trended worse and worse as we close in this year, not better.  The clipper next week-while the set up looks promising, I think many fear it will do the same and start to trend worse as we get closer.  Hope not, but that has been the THEME so far this season.

Hoping something breaks for us over the next couple weeks...in the meantime keeping spirits up and checking in from time to time.  And I realize that December was just bad Period, and we weren't expectinng much/if anything from that set up, but systems just seem to be finding ways to just NOT SNOW in SNE so far this season.  Tip was right...less is the correction vector this season so far anyways.

Let's be positive... a mild soaker followed by a drop back down below freezing. At least it doesn't stay warm the way it did in December... and maybe a trace or a bit more or more than a bit more in the next storm....on the 7th?

Is one allowed mild sarcasm on this board?

LOL! I see that the Enforcers have gotten quite serious about moving stuff like this from the other boards! I should have written "THIS IS JUST A TEST".

What's the highest elevation you can realistically live around there, 2k?

Check out Tilda Hill Rd in North Adams/Florida.  There's a house around 2,500' that has to be the highest year round house in SNE:

In CT I know there are some homes around 1800' in Salisbury, but I don't know if the access road is open year round.

Salisbury is so remote, you've gotta retire there. Which I certainly will think about, in 30 years.

:weenie:  Ive actually driven through that area in Florida, they must average 120"-130" per year.. only issue is the wind turbines that they are building on the ridge there

Yeah--they presented their inherent issues for the residents.  If I'm not mistaken, I think they have also found them falling short of what they were anticipating when they sold the idea.

I'm trying to decide between Caribou, ME and Houghton, MI.... UP is definitely winning out with those lake effect snows and cold winters to hold it..... Of course, my wife keeps telling me to send her a postcard now and then!  So, I guess it will remain good old Worcester.. a relative snow bonus place to live in SNE....

It could be worse, I could have gone back to Oklahoma with the rest of my family when I was in my teens... Fortunately I was rescued by my grandparents and college

If I'd gone back there I'd be thrilled to have a winter as remotely "good" as this one has been so far....

Thus, it is all relative. We are almost certainly bound to get at least one good snowstorm this winter.. OKC is lucky to get a 6" event every five to ten years.

This is the best thread when there is nothing imminent...for the banter and the inevitable meltdowns

I think we'll be seeing many meltdowns in the coming days and week.  I got mine of my system already.  I'm at peace with a dead ratter--if we manage better, great.

Temp dropping down here.

22.1.5 off a high of 24.2 an hour ago.

Verbatim its C-1" south of MA/CT border, prob 1-2" up to pike and 2-4" N of the pike to S NH...that's a gradient. That's how these systems often work.

I'll take 2-4" and run, at this point.

It's never a pike event with him

He never likes any area of dillineation to be the pike....its always either south of his area, or the NH border.
