High-impact event that is almost worthy of a sticky thread relative to the stuff we've seen so far this month lol.

I'll make sure to take a photo of every flake that falls.

Does Chicago need to send in all it's plows to help dig you out?

National Guard too, please. Just in case...

I just back from helping with a structure fire. The little light rain wasn't bad, but then it suddenly changed to sl**t and was hard enough to sting my cheeks. Then it kept changing to rain, snow, and sl**t. It was flipping worse than the GFS.  Now getting some big fatties.

Congrats on the s****! Didn't hear/see any here, not that it didn't happen of course, but ended up with a thin car topper. Better than most this December...

Not surprising. Arctic fronts are usually good for wringing out any available moisture. I'm kind of surprised IWX hasn't stuck flurries in the forecast (outside LES areas).

...and there it is.

  • Monday Night A 20 percent chance of snow showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. North wind around 5 mph.
  • Tuesday A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 27. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

I've picked up a whopping .5" this month. Could add another tenth or two before it is over. lol

Got down to 16 this morning.  Much of northern IA was down close to zero over that fresh snow cover.

Tomorrow will make it 5 weeks since last measurable snow.  With no snow in the forecast until next weekend it looks like December will go down with goose eggs in the snow department.  That's pretty unusual for one location to have no snow in Dec, but most of the region hasn't had any either.  What a strange month.

Hockey rink has been plowed. Time to finally enjoy winter fun.

24F and falling.

I grew up playing hockey as a kid on frozen ponds around the area. Me and my cousin were able to play last year and met Patrick Kanes uncle and his son there. Was pretty awesome time. I started skating at 2 years old and played hockey my entire life, literally nothing beats playing on a frozen pond. I really hope I am able to do it this year as well.

From KLOT to Alek

lake effect for him on monday

BUT
ANTICIPATE THAT THE GREATEST CHANCES FOR ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL BE
RELATIVELY CLOSE TO THE LAKE...WITH ONLY SCT -SHSN OR FLURRIES
FARTHER INLAND INTO THE CHICAGO METRO AREA. ALSO...WITH LOW LEVEL
FLOW SLOWLY...BUT CONTINUOUSLY BACKING FROM NELY TO NWLY FROM MONDAY
MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING...DO NOT ANTICIPATE THAT ANY SINGLE
LAKE PLUME...SHOULD ONE DEVELOP...TO REMAIN OVER ANY GIVEN AREA FOR
A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME...SO WOULD ANTICIPATE THAT ANY
ACCUMULATIONS WOULD BE BELOW ADVISORY CRITERIA. LATEST INDICATORS
SUGGEST THAT THE COOK COUNTY LAKEFRONT...INCLUDING DOWNTOWN CHICAGO
COULD SEE 1 TO 3 INCHES TOTAL SNOWFALL
...WHILE NWRN INDIANA MAY SEE
2 TO 4 INCHES. HOWEVER...THESE AMOUNTS WILL BE HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON
SFC FETCH AND HOW QUICKLY SFC WINDS WILL BACK FROM NELY TO NWLY

Hmm..yea I guess the north side has seen far better than the city itself and the southern neighborhoods.

How about MDW?

Sounds like you are right...south Chicago was apparently quite screwed. MDW reported 0.6" in November. Its a coop obs but from what I understand he is a local historian so Im sure his reports are very accurate.
