DarthDoppler
After reading Hazwopers link i am now fully educated on SEPA. We both get a trophy hehe (Chescopawx might have me beat however) After reading his link, even whoever wrote that isn't sure about what SEPA is lol. I don't think the storms care what we call it though

famartin
In my fourth grade PA geography class we used to divide PA into five distinct regions, Philly was the "coastal plain," the Reading prong and Lancaster/Harrisburg, was considered the "Ridge and Valley Region", the next section was the Allegheny region which comprise of all the land outside of the ridge and valley, with the exception of the Erie's coastal plain. The Allegheny region was split into two section east and west of the Susquehanna. This is more of a geologically useful nomenclature because it handles the main watersheds in PA more easily. Does anybody know if the is any "official" convention used by the government or professional organizations? Hmm... sounds like your teacher may not have been all that familiar with PA geography him/herself Here's a good map from Wikipedia:

Sophisticated Skeptic
final total 11.5 inches Highland Lakes, NJ temp 30F with light snow falling noice. congrats. Good map. One of the cool things I wasn't aware of before moving up here - Tobyhanna and Gouldsboro state parks are in the Pocono Plateau. About 20,000 years ago, a giant sheet of ice at least one mile thick covered the area. Evidence of the glacier is the very rocky soil that is called glacial till and the abundanceof bogs. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/cs/groups/public/documents/document/dcnr_003053.pdf

Voyager
I kinda agree with Ray. That is Lehigh Valley. SEPA is the five county region around Philly, but that can be interpreted differently: If using the shortened form of "Southeast PA", it will almost always be referring to Philadelphia and it's surrounding counties (5), with possibly all or portions of the outer row of Lancaster, Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties (and occasionally Lebanon and Schuylkill counties). http://www.larryyerkes.com/southeastern-pa-and-delawarevalley.html I always thought of (and even heard reference to) the Lehigh Valley as being "east central PA. The Philly area as well as Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester being SEPA, Berks, Lehigh Northampton, Schuylkill, Carbon, and Monroe as ECPA, and Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wayne, Pike, Wyoming, and Susquehanna as NEPA. Berks and Monroe could be "wildcards" that geographically can be in SEPA and NEPA respectively.

We hike/bike to the Boulder fields near by and it is an amazing sight. No doubt there is some great geographic history for PA. Heck the whole NE for that matter. One time my son was bored so I told him to google the Chesapeake Bay watershed history and footprint. KamuSnow
.1" sleet, ha! It snowed. Not even worth reporting. Thought you would have done better... A detailed snow map of actual accumulations for this event might be interesting - seems there was some unusual uneven-ness in "distribution", especially in the warmer areas. Don't know if it could all be explained by elevation, maybe somewhat due to variability in precipitation intensity?
DarthDoppler
Thought you would have done better... A detailed snow map of actual accumulations for this event might be interesting - seems there was some unusual uneven-ness in "distribution", especially in the warmer areas. Don't know if it could all be explained by elevation, maybe somewhat due to variability in precipitation intensity? Elevation definitely mattered, valleys on both sides of the hill have much lower totals. Judging by the way every 100' seemed to add about 1" of snow, I'm sure some of the higher places in my area had 10~11". Even the smallest amount of elevation helped with this storm. _AR_
That's too bad. Power outage was my number one concern yesterday and this area escaped it for once Power finally back on. Was just a blown fuse on the pole down the road ... Oh well. Turkey today.
SP
Power finally back on. Was just a blown fuse on the pole down the road ... Oh well. Turkey today. Always seems to be the case in my experience. Something that takes 15 seconds to fix. Glad you are back!
