CoastalWx
Yeah it definitely gets warm aloft, but seems like that is at the tail end. Obviously latitude gets important.

SnowMan
That doesn't mean anything. You are getting dumped on. I was just interpreting what I saw from the models. However, doesn't the amount of precip play a part in the amount of snow to fall?

Zeus
The question was intended for understanding. I'm just beginning to get what the different level lows are (SL, 850, 700) and I know that changes and different levels affect P-type. I'm not sure about what, when, where. Not only concerned with ORH. The most fascinating discussions this morning have had to do with CF and common rain/snow line set up in the Boston area. The meteorology of the event is what interests me. We'll know what we actually get sometime Thursday morning. Methinks the Jr doth protest too much. You do you, baby. You do you. All said and done, I agree with Will and Scott on that NAM run actually being better for a good chunk of the CP staying in snow -- it still being a NAM run. I don't like putting much stock in the NAM, especially when it's juiced up like that. Seen it before; without some GFS/Euro support in the 12z chorus, it's going to look silly. SJonesWX
No it won't, Earliest you could get on trails is Dec 15th, New years most years we are riding here, So anything sooner is a bonus, Can't go far if the lakes and ponds are not frozen, And we have dealt plenty over the years with thawed ground, Many clubs have had to go into bogs and open them up so that they could freeze I agree. In NH, opening day is also 12/15, but that is the official date that clubs can start getting reimbursed for grooming. you can technically ride before then, but it is discouraged due to hunting season, and landowner concerns. i like the early bonus time, but it doesn’t happen that often. If we can get some meaningful cold around 12/15, with a couple mod storms between then and xmas, all systems should be go.
CoastalWx
Snowmna, it's not a 1-1 relationship. You have better mid level temps to support heavy snow. Whereas SE MA has all sorts of ptypes to deal with.
