Severe Thunderstorm Warnings just issued for parts of southern and eastern Indiana.

On the winter side of things, Peoria over to snow and Moline still going to town.

i stepped outside at the ungodly hour of 4 am to let the dog out and was taken back by how warm and dead still the airmass was, it was kind of weird. always fun when a nice deep low moves overhead.

Same here. It was relatively calm when I got up at 6:00am this morning. Two and a half hours later, and it's a little bit different.

Bloomington over to snow now.

growing increasingly skeptical that we even see flakes this far east

I am starting to feel the same. Not sure the cold air catches up before this slug of moisture moves through.

Feels like its been a long time since one of these rain to snow events worked out in this snow weenies favor.

But again, it's only November

this

and yeah, you can see the warm tongue on the meso page right into the metro area. rain to snow wrap around events always suck, especially when the low passes so close overhead.

Doppler radar indicating it's snowing already west of I-39 and then eastwards towards Pontiac and surrounding areas.

Sounds like the changeover may be picking up steam.

Also, slightly OT, was there a recent upgrade to the mobile version of the site? I can see everyone's location now listed by the name. Or have I just been ignorant for some time?

Picked up a quick inch or so just by looking out the window.  Ripped very hard for about a half hour.  Probably <10:1 ratio.  Snow has plastered to everything.  Still snowing decently, but the back edge is approaching quickly.

Not bad.

Temp down to 42˚ here with driving sheet drizzle.

And a little ground truth from the above dual-pol image, Pontiac over to -SN.

Cold starting to sweep in behind the low. Snowing at SPI but raining at PIA at 6:00am...that's always a fun look. Meanwhile, full on Spring here in LAF at 54˚...and a storm total of 1.34" of rain.

1.81" in my gauge and still raining.

An even 2.00 in my tippy bucket.
