"It is simple enough in the telling: A bitter wind battered the cafeteria's brick wall into submission, toppling it just as about 120 students sat down to eat lunch. Bricks and mortar and glass and metal rained down.

Seven children, all either 7 or 8 years old, died and 19 were injured the day of the collapse. Two of the injured children died six days later. It was the worst such disaster in state history.

Since then the gaping hole in the school’s front has been filled with a new wall, a memorial has been erected, lawsuits settled, and the children who survived have moved on to careers and having their own kids."

I was a senior in high school at the time and one of my teachers lost his son there. I work with a woman now who was in the cafeteria when it happened. I remember that day like it was yesterday.

Me too. One of the strongest cold fronts to come through the area. I think every state east of the Mississippi had either a tornado or wind damage reports

I remember sitting in the library at my high school and watching the giant flag outside as it was just whipping in the wind, the rain was blowing sideways and was being pushed inside around the windows.
