Here is a very impressive video in a snowband south of Buffalo. Obviously this is as close to white out or zero visability you will ever see in heavy snow.  Not the stuff that posters say is white out when its really 1/4 mile stuff.  The guy taking this is saying the snow rate is 5" per hour.  Obviously the vast majority of this whiteout is snow but I wonder how much is fog too?  It almost looks like some is just heavy fog, maybe like how it would look like on top of Mount Washington  in the clouds with heavy snow.  He moves around so much and doesn't get close to a dark wall for me to tell if this is all heavy snow or heavy snow and extemely saturated air producing the 50 to 100 foot vis.  Probably makes no difference but kind of an interesting question.  Any takers?

That's me. If I know anything from all my Lake Effect chasing it is snowfall rates. The Buf NWS has been forecasting 4+ inches per hour in bands for the last 24 hours. I was in a top DBZ return during that video. Rates were absolutely 5 inches per hour for that period of time in that video.

I am not sure yet. I will try to go out tomorrow to get some better video. Houses are going to be piles of snow by Thursday afternoon. They already canceled my training for tomorrow and looks to be no work as well. Not sure about Thurs yet. I just need some sleep, but I am the ultimate Lake effect snow weenie. It is going to take a few days to clear out the driveway.
