IsentropicLift
at the one poster that tried to tell me I was wrong about the coast seeing basically nothing. My buddy at work said he got ~3" in Hewitt. I saw a few snow covered cars on my way into work and some white on the tops of the hills on 287 in Mahwah. LongBeachSurfFreak
I heard they got thundersnow. Multiple posts about that on Facebook and Twitter. If we had those kind of returns we would have seen snow too. The rates just never got strong enough to cool the column all the way down hence why there was snow at the top of empire but never at the surface NYC east. There was snow reported in the north shore hills 150' plus so we just missed out

WintersGrasp
MODIS visible imagery showing the relatively narrow band of significant accumulating snows to the north and west of the city. t1.14318.USA4.143.250m.jpg That's actually a really good example of the usual "areas north and west" that get much more snow during borderline events such as this. The highest elevated areas of Highland Lakes and West Milford always do great. I remember a few years back they received over 2 feet, while we got a couple inches just 45 minutes away. Naturally elevation is key here, but close proximity to the coast allows them to still get dumped on with coastals that don't spread precip back into PA
