Brewers
MSP and most of MN are in the 'marginal' risk category for thunderstorms tomorrow per the SPC. About 100 J/kg of MUCAPE being progged. Sure, I'll take some thundersleet. Let's do it. Interesting...haven't had to chance to check out soundings yet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RCNYILWX
NAM/GGEM and RGEM bring warm advection wing precip through northern IL tomorrow evening. Definitely more bullish than GFS and Euro with southern extent of precip. GGEM and RGEM have done well before on farther south placement of WAA precip with clippers on other occasions this winter. If it happens this way, with plenty of dry air aloft, wet bulbing would likely transition any sleet/mix at onset to snow. cyclone77
12z HRW-NMM keeps MSP easily all snow tomorrow. Shows some nice looking convective elements in there as well. This is at 18z tomorrow.

Brewers
Weenie RAP image Edit: Actually a nice negative omega bulls eye within the DGZ on the 01z RAP. 18z RGEM also seemed to like the metro area.

Thunder in the grids and it looks like they added the south metro to the WWA.
Chitown Storm
Thunder in the grids and it looks like they added the south metro to the WWA. Won't be a big snow but it should rip pretty good for a few hours. Thunder now in the grids and they just upped totals here north of STP. Thermals don't seem to be as big of a concern anymore here in eastern MN.
Chitown Storm
0z RGEM and GFS coming in hot for the TC. Interesting how both of them have a nice swath that runs NW to SE, and the NAM runs the swath the opposite direction.

Tonight's high res models have been locked and loaded for us. My goodness at the 00z RGEM...

cyclone77
Yeah looking like a fun little event up there for MSP. Should be some rippage with the convective snows tomorrow afternoon. Could be some graupel mixing in there with some of the heavier bursts of snow.

michsnowfreak
Unexpected dusting of 0.1" this morning. Keeping the glacier fresh! Im sure we will have several bouts of light snow in the nw flow this week. Details at this point are next to worthless lol
Chitown Storm
Looks like a springtime squal line moving in from the west. Dark clouds on the horizon. No reports of lightning yet. Here's to hoping.

Brewers
First batch if precip was a mix of pellets and freezing rain, unfortunately. The last metar from Lakeville reported lightning in the distance but nothing has showed up on my real time data.
Chitown Storm
Yep, this first band is all freezing rain and huge ice pellets. A huge bust in the making in terms of snow totals. It actually started as snow and flipped to freezing rain, not the other way around.
Brewers
Our system looks sweet on visible, but we're about to get dry slotted. HRRR and RAP try to fill things in this afternoon.
Chitown Storm
Getting absolutely blitzed with the current band. Monster flakes and visibility down to 1/4 mi. But too little too late unless things fill in to the SW.

michsnowfreak
Wondering if the arctic front and disturbance friday night and Saturday will carry a bit more punch than model qpf would indicate? I have seen it happen many times in this situations. Right now dtx going 1-2" of fluff which will be a nice topping to the glacier.
Powerball
BTW, so much for the mostly cloudy forecast today... Models, as typical, completely underestimated the push of dry air. Not a cloud to be found across most of the state.
