Tim from Springfield (IL)
Today marks the 103rd anniversary of the "Great Blue Norther" of record warm temperatures, severe weather, and tornadoes immediately followed by record cold and blizzard-like conditions in much of the Midwest (including areas where record high and low temps were set on the same day). A few articles:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Blue_Norther_of_November_11,_1911 (FWIW) http://www.crh.noaa.gov/sgf/?n=great_blue_norther http://www.crh.noaa.gov/eax/?n=nov_11_1911 Any other weather models available concerning that day? Unreal day.
Tim from Springfield (IL)
Another interesting article concerning the Great Blue Norther's effects in Missouri, with a Mizzou atmospheric science professor coming up with 1/29/2008 as the nearest modern-day analog to 11/11/1911. http://blog.ametsoc.org/news/the-great-blue-norther-of-111111/
Chicago WX
Some missing temperature data here at the longterm COOP for that event, but the high on 11/11 was 74˚ (low temp missing) and the low on 11/12 was 9˚ (high temp missing). Also, there was 0.77" precip with 1.0" of snow. 1/29/2008 was a pretty cool event.
