The winter of Thanksgiving to Christmas 1989 was awesome. Clipper after clipper with constant snow cover and cold. We were skating on Rocky Gorge in mid December. Too bad January and February 1990 sucked.

Every January and February from 1989-1992 was horrendous. One of the worst 4 year periods you could have. Things didn't improve until the second half of Feb. 1993.

I moved into my current house in 89' and figured I'd do better than my old location 10 miles to the southeast

....well, that was some sloppy thinking as those following winters were real cr@py as you mentioned

I have some old footage of the winter of 90/91 when it snowed steadily all day into the evening one Sunday and we ended up with a measly 2"

those years were as bad as 72/73-75/76

Thanksgiving 1989 was an interesting storm in that the entire state of MD had accum snow, and it was an all snow event, even on the beaches. The heaviest amounts were I-95 east to the coast. I actually drove from the eastern shore to Carroll county the following morning, and there was 6-7 inches at home and half that at my sister's house in Westminster.

That was a good storm. We went to my grandparents house in OC that year for thanksgiving. That was the first time I ever saw snow on the beach.

I don't know what happened to the east, but we had a significant snow event out here pre-Thanksgiving 1995.  Don't remember the exact date, but I remember taking that opportunity to run to the mall for some early, crowd-free Christmas shopping.  Ended up with about 6 inches.  Hard to believe that no one else is recalling this event.

the link below is the only 11/95 event that you could be talking about

but it was either a late Thanksgiving that year or your memory is off by a few days, idk

in any event, it wasn't all snow over here, I think a mix     lol

I just watched a video, he says he's not changing anything at the moment, however, it wasn't a great sign to see the POS AO.

If you are a couple of counties west of Philly, why are you posting in our forum?

All I've seen you contribute is winter doom and gloom. We don't need it.

Thanks for that link.  Looks like it was post-Thanksgiving not pre-Thanksgiving.  Not too bad for 19 years ago, but at least I correctly remembered the amount.

The eastern suburbs didn't experience it, but there definitely was a November '95 snow event before the late November one. Highstakes already posted about it earlier in this thread.

It was on 11/11/95-- severe weather along the strong cold front knocked out power across parts of the DC metro area, followed by a rapid switch to snow covering every surface. More than 2" fell across most of the NW suburbs, but it all started to melt overnight as temps rose slowly.

no, I remember that one too (very well   :) ), but he said he received 6" from it around T'giving so I figured it wasn't that one

I can't believe you still look at that worthless POS model..

yeah, it costs so damn much and takes all those clicks of a mouse....our days are just too important for that!

come on man, it's entertaining to get a new run every day on a lr model

and very occasionally it's right...just not this year apparently.....but tomorrow's a new run/day! :wacko2:

Well, curiosity got the better of me, went and looked through my records, I have a 11-14-95 snow of 4.7 inches here? Maybe that is the one he is thinking of? Funny thing is exactly one year later (11-14-96) had a 1.0 inch snow too.

The most November snow I have ever recorded since living here is 12 inches in 1995.  It came in 3 separate events

11/11 - 4 inches,  afternoon high of 61, strong cold front moved through, then heavy snow, gusty winds, lightning and thunder for 4 hours in the evening.

11/14-15 - 4 inches overnight, temp high on 14th just 34F

11/29 - 4 inches in the wee hours of the morning.

I didn't recall that one.  Interesting stuff though.  Two snows in Nov is amazing.  95-96 was certainly a special winter.

Well, I don't know which one of these is in my memory bank now.  LOL.  I remember the 6" pretty well, but I did seem to think it was before T-day.  I certainly don't remember 3 storms that Nov, however.  I should've kept a log.

11/11 I clearly recall as in my earlier post. 11/29 I remember but it's really vague and I meant to include it in yesterday's post but forgot to add it in. I think we only had 1 or 2 inches in Reisterstown so you definitely did much better in Westminster. The 11/14-15 event is the one that has me perplexed. I have absolutely no recollection of this event and they are not many that I don't remember. I'm thinking the rain/snow line must have set up just to my northwest and I must have gotten very little accumulation.

I remember it well. Left MoCo at 8am Thanksgiving morning with 1/2" snow on the ground and arrived in Raleigh 6 hours later and it was 75F.

I remember it well, too. Wife (then girlfriend) and I were living in Fairlington at the time, and she went down to her parents' house in Hilton Head for the holiday. I remember calling her and telling her about the snow, and she told me about how nice it was down there.

I'm heading down there for 10 days starting the end of next week. Hoping for some 70-ish weather while we're there to make for good fishing and other outdoor activities. All the better if it's on Thanksgiving itself!
