IsentropicLift
This morning Mr. G announced his retirement from CBS FM 101.1 in NY. Mr. G will always be remembered for his kind and friendly personality and the way he was able to deliver forecasts in an easy to understand and comforting manner. I still have fond childhood memories of listening to his forecasts before some of our biggest blizzards and weather events. Although Mr. G is retiring from radio, he will remain the on air met for WPIX 11 for a time. We wish Mr. G good luck in his future endevours. You will be missed. I guess doing the early morning gig and the evening gig was too much for him. He has to be close to 70. Otherwise why give up such a nice gig? Otherwise why give up such a nice gig? My guess is that he's going to retire from TV soon and that he's going to make it a gradual stepdown. Plus under the new morning program they made him an in studio personality. That might have proven to be more than he wanted.

tmagan
I remembered when he worked with Jim Jensen and Warner Wolf. They certainly do not make them like Jim Jensen anymore.

uncle W
I remember going to see Jim Jensen play softball with the CBS All stars in Bloomingdale. Have a picture somewhere... I played against Jim Jensen in the Broadway Show League in May 1969 in 97 degree temperatures...He was a good pitcher and I was lucky to get two hits off him even though we lost big...Jim was a softball fanatic... Lord Snot
great met…….one of the best…sad to see him and allen go Great met? Mr. G is no met. Hey I grew up watching him on the channel 2 news as well, preferred him to NBCs Frank Field and ABCs Storm. I couldn't stand John Coleman and despised Ch 11's Roberto Tirado and the ultimate phony Bob Harris. The problem with Mr G is - he is an entertainer not a met. He actually was teaching Journalism at Hofstra University while I attended...seeing him in person was cool....but - true story, one of my professors told me he had lunch with him one day and was informed by Mr G that Irv had no clue what he was talking about when giving a weather forecast - it was all about delivery and communication skills. I hope that Joe Cioffi finally catches a break and gets a FT job at the WB. IMHO he is one of the top three mets in the business (right up there with John Marshall, although nobody comes close to Steve Dimartino). He does not have the personality of a Mr G - but he extremely knowledgeable and fascinating to listen to....I looked forward to every forecast he gave on News 12 LI back in the day. Exactly, Mr. G does not have his degree. I think the writing's on the wall for him to leave over at WPIX, about time he retires from there. I'd prefer Joe Cioffi, Craig Allen, John Marshall or whoever over him. I like his "G thing" segments that he does on WPIX, though. Maybe they can just demote him, but keep him there in some capacity, doing feature stories instead of the weather? When there's a major storm, he's certainly not the one I'd turn to. But like you said, he's a good entertainer.
Weather3120
Mr. G is a lot better then the CBS Weather Center... I do not like Lonnie Quinn, John Elliott, Ms. finch. They are all so terrible... But I do like Craig Allen, Joe Ciffoi, and Eric Fisher from Boston CBS sister station.
