Heavy snow now in downtown Asheville.  I have about .5" on the ground imby.

It was widespread 1"-2" between Sam's Gap to Weaverville before getting spotty around UNCA campus. Snow are falling at great rate north of us and is sticking to ground/roads very well in Tennessee from what I saw on way back from Roan. I can buy 1-3" for Asheville.

btw, to show you how impressive it is. This was the latest 1 hour sounding for around gsp at 07z. That's quite a lot of warm air near the surface that had to be  overcome. I wouldn't be surprised though if areas go in and out of the snow depending on rates and it still might be rather localized..but with continued caa it should become more widespread in general. Especially since snow was able to make it to the surface with an overall less cold airmass than what will be in place in just a few hours. We'll see though, these things are tricky.

Unbelievable. Heavy wet blowing snow 34degrees. Simpsonville SC!!

Flurries just started here..really surprised since the temp is still 40

Good to hear my old stomping grounds are getting some snow on the first day of November. This would set the record for the earliest accumulation if it can keep it up for a few hours!

It's quite a good sign for the south carolina folks that snow is making to the ground here with barely any returns overhead and with temps near 40. I have to believe as the CAA continues, folks along and east of the savannah river are going to be surprised by what they see.

btw, this is the earliest i have ever seen snow fall in a situation such as this. I'm pretty sure I have not seen flurries here this early before in a plane old post frontal system situation either.

Good to hear from you Phil. This is really amazing to see at this time Of the year. It's slowly starting to cool the elevated and grassy surfaces off.

There is an outside shot of a quick inch if these rates can keep up. This is pretty much the best possible scenario for accumulating snow so early in upstate SC. Strong dynamics, no sunlight, 850-hPa temps dropping to -4 to -6 C as these bands swing though. This band should be pivoting over the next couple of hours right over GSP and cloud top temperatures overhead are still decreasing (indicating that the lift is still ongoing and actually extending further aloft). Don't be surprised if GSP puts out a short fuse winter weather advisory given the current situation.

The thing is, I expected a changeover in the heavier areas of precip..i did not expect to see all snow here at 40 degrees with light returns over head. i mean it's coming down really good out there now..made more impressive by the 20 to 25mph winds. It's quite a site in the yard light and  shining my spotlight out there.

It seems to be following the 0c 925mb contour. I've been following this since early this evening and the rain/snow line has been doing that most of the night..save areas in the upstate where dynamics are playing a larger role. Again I hope folks east of here in the southern upstate get up early because the 0c 950mb temps are on the way the next 1 to 3 hours and I don't see why there should be any difference there..except they will have a lot more precip than here the next 6 hours or so.

As hard as it is to believe, current conditions in Saluda., NC... 32.6 degrees, moderate snow and thunder. Winds 15 to 20 mph. Almost 2 inches now and still coming.... While I was typing another flash and thunder. Deformation band? Anyone?

Added, with the low to our south radar seems to show upslope from the south east. Very unusual direction. Somebody with more knowledge please chime in... Don't want to Weenie out on my first post of the season...
