Ga wx with the stat of the day

Thanks, Steve. Officially the lowest may go as 542 dm for KATL (12Z today) based on 0Z/12Z records though even lower for your area (~540). How does it feel to be a part of met. history?  ;) Prior to today, here were the lowest 500 mb hts in ATL so early in the season since 1948:

For KATL:

543 0Z 11/3/1966: T of SN/IP early afternoon

543 12Z 11/5/2010

546 0Z 11/5/1970

548 12Z 10/31/1993: T of SN early afternoon.

549 0Z 10/20/2011

Also, as stated, low 500 mb ht. records are being obliterated between 12Z today and 0Z tonight for the AGS/COLA/SAV/CHS corridor. So, all of these are essentially once in a lifetime records.

Essentially, this is saying that this is the strongest 500 mb low this far south this early since at least 1948! How cool is that?!

Currently 41 here with big fat cold rain drops ... apparent elevated bright band passed over within the hour. No cat's paws (didn't look very closely tho) but based on my own experience these kind of large drops in this kind of sounding ... I bet the melt level is already down to 1,000' over Ayer.

It is awesome...that's so much more anomalous than whatever happens in New England. Wonder if this is on par with rarity for some of those spots as Oct 2011 in NE.

It definitely is that anomalous. Columbia, SC had its earliest snow on record.

Hmm, dual-pol suggests the melting layer is getting down around 1,000 feet up here. Sunday River still reporting rain at the base, but I think that's around 800 ft.

Sounds about right given they have a similar airmass to VT and northern NH right now and various observations of snow getting into the 1000-1200ft range.

Even down here along Rt 2 in northern Mass the particulates are swollen cold blops... No "cats pawing" just yet, but those large content meteoroids usually means their converted from aggregates to water not too far off the surface.
