How concerned are folks in WNY snow belt areas about forecasts for temps in the 50's this weekend with rain?  As bad as the snow is, a rapid melt could be awful?

Not really worried. We had 7 days straight of 50s and sun after receiving 83 inches of snow in 5 days back in 2001. Flooding after thaws is nearly always overstated. Well that is unless you have a leaky basement, but whose fault is that?

plus the fact snow ratios are incredibly high the moisture content is not as high  of synoptic snow

Actually I just went to shovel this snow. It has weight to it. The bottom foot of it is slop. This has more weight than most snyoptic snows I've shoveled last year. Early season LES unusually have much more QPF/Snow ratio than true arctic air events in Late DEC/JAN

That might heighten the flooding risk more than usual then.  What were ratios like in 2001?

SNOW LOADS

How much weight can most roofs take? Snow loads for buildings in the eastern regions are generally around

20 lbs. per square foot. This does not include the weight of the roof membrane, trusses and any HVAC equip-

ment on the roof areas.

How Much Does Snow Weigh?

A one-inch layer of water or ice weighs approximately five lbs. per square foot. A roof designed for a 20 lb. per

square foot snow load could theoretically hold up to four inches of ice. How much snow is that?

Meteorologists estimate that about 12 inches of snow is equivalent to one inch of water, which means a roof

can hold up to four feet of snow. Wet and packed snow weighs more, so a roof with a load of wet snow or

packed snow might only to be able to handle up to three feet of snow.

Buffalo soldier, get to your roof if you have excessive loads anywhere. With this forecast with a quick warm up and rain absorption into your pack it's trouble

Friday Partly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Saturday Partly sunny, with a high near 43.

Saturday Night A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 39. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Sunday Rain. High near 51. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Sunday Night Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 47. Chance of

Flat roofs vs pitched...flats cause the most. But all depends on construction type and quality.

Gotta imagine the code up there stands up to most LES totals.. However, this is a big one.

Don't worry I will. There is just so much snow, I'd be surprised if we lost half of it. To make space and room for it and the piles we are going to need the melt lol. This is insanity.
