ORH_wxman
What was the previous record holder? 1976? Dec 2001 had totals over 80 inches I recall...but I'm not sure if that is the record for Lake Erie . I'm pretty sure it was the record for Buffalo itself though. chietanen
The monthly record for BUF is 83" in December 2001. The 24 hour record is 38" in December 1995. But again, I don't think the totals from this storm will be "official" for Buffalo proper because the airport is north of the band.

Yeah I was wondering what the biggest storm was for anywhere off Lake Erie...for BUF airport itself, this one won't come close, but just south fo them obviously is obscene. 40/70 Benchmark
If I were ever in that, I'd be out there running nude for days because police wouldn't be able to get to me. The Capital Weather Gang mentioned this on a Facebook post: Capital Weather Gang Correct, but spoke with the NWS in Buffalo, and even though they don't keep records in some of the smaller towns, they consider the record to be comparable across the Buffalo snow belt area. --Angela

That is the coolest thing I have ever seen....it's like a cavalry of snownadoes just lurking in the background...I am honestly regretting not having flown to KBUF and just renting a motel room. MillvilleWx
This is some of the craziest stuff I've ever seen. Amazing pics by everyone in here posting them. snowalot
That pic is awesome. Being formerly from Buffalo i know the feeling of being in it vs seeing the cloud bank. My bro in kenmore (northtown) says they have practically nothing. Amazing with lake effect what a few miles can do.
velouria13
I lived at ground zero for the 83" week back in 2001. It was a foot or two at a time with breaks in between because the band oscillated. It added up for sure, but nothing like this, with the insanely heavy band basically sitting still over one location all day.

ORH_wxman
Yeah, talk about sharp cutoff on the north side. There's like 40dbz showing up near where Nick is and then 2-3 miles north its clear.
