What was the previous record holder? 1976?

Dec 2001 had totals over 80 inches I recall...but I'm not sure if that is the record for Lake Erie . I'm pretty sure it was the record for Buffalo itself though.

The monthly record for BUF is 83" in December 2001. The 24 hour record is 38" in December 1995. But again, I don't think the totals from this storm will be "official" for Buffalo proper because the airport is north of the band.

Yeah I was wondering what the biggest storm was for anywhere off Lake Erie...for BUF airport itself, this one won't come close, but just south fo them obviously is obscene.

The Capital Weather Gang mentioned this on a Facebook post:

Capital Weather Gang Correct, but spoke with the NWS in Buffalo, and even though they don't keep records in some of the smaller towns, they consider the record to be comparable across the Buffalo snow belt area. --Angela
