jm1220
about a 55 mile wide eye The eye is smaller than that-it's that the SW side has been wiped out from dry air and shear. Typical of some of our landfalling hurricanes like Katrina. This will probably be a 115mph or so storm when it hits.
IsentropicLift
Looks like the shear is increasing just a bit but it's too late for Bermuda, as close to a direct hit by a major as you can get.
Lookout
Just log in here and go to the awos link at the top. http://199.172.239.3/gemamet/index.jsp Looks like it might be down all of a sudden. hopefully it's just because of high traffic use and it's not down for for good..that would be hugely disappointing. Kory
I'm pretty sure they haven't had sustained hurricane winds yet. That just shows you how incredibly powerful sustained winds in a tropical storm/hurricane are. Many people underestimate them.

Sickman
I bet Josh is really kicking himself right now... I bet he is. This is a stormchasers dream. No stormchaser is going to take a chance chasing in Bermuda. It's not like you can go island-hopping if there's a 40-50 mile deviation. Too big a risk that it will just be a breezy, rainy day. Besides, Josh is a little snooty about chasing anything around 35N... not a "true" TC to him.
