Superstorm93
There is pretty much unanimous support for a cyclone to form within the next five days from the UKMET, ECMWF, GFS, CMC, and FIM in the BOB. Just something to keep an eye on as the season rolls in...
hawkeye_wx
The floater loop pretty clearly shows this system organizing now. It already appears to have a nice circulation. The GFS has been showing this system getting pretty strong for several+ runs, while the Euro was less bullish. However, today's 12z Euro jumped onto the strong-cyclone bandwagon. The northeastern Indian coast appears to be the target. This system plus Vongfong should make for an interesting next week.
Cheeznado
TC HudHud really looks to be cranking up in the bay of Bengal. Headed straight to a city of 2 million with the only natural port in India. Forecast intensity 110kts. Could be pretty bad.

Headed straight to a city of 2 million with the only natural port in India. Forecast intensity 110kts. Could be pretty bad. With the upper ridge centered north of the storm there is still some ene shear undercutting the outflow with some dry air, but the storm was finally able to wrap the convection around the north side of the center. The visible loop shows a well-organized core that should be able to rev up pretty good now.

Derecho!
if anyone was wondering what it's like to have a Cat 4 eye wall slowly grind through a modern, economically advanced industrial port city of 2 million people at 4 knots forward speed, they are about to find out. klw
to my amateur eyes, the radar looks a bit more ragged than earlier.
wxmeddler
If at all possible could posters refrain from posting the direct image link to the indian radar site? It's makes the page here load slower but also causes increased traffic demand on the main Indian site which is a critical resource for the world at this time. hawkeye_wx
Cyclone Nilofar is now expected to remain well away from the Arabian peninsula and simply turn northeast into the Pakistan/India border region, in a weakened state. It has had a big burst of strengthening, though, and is now a major cyclone. The original forecast did not show it getting above cat 1.
