GSP tweeted this out today. They call it the southern App Thermal Belt. Pretty neat phenomenon!a7f20342330413865dfa16157c4c8532.jpg

Clemson is always one of the warmest places in the upstate, must be all that hot air coming from the campus :) Actually I've always thought maybe the lake has something to do with it. But the thermal belt is real, Greenville and I-85 corridor is often warmer than Greenwood and Anderson.

Look at this for Augusta, GA::AUGUSTA        :AGS       41 /   90 / 0

 Augusta had a whopping 49 degree rise from the low today!! Dry air ftw. I wonder when the last time was that they had that kind of spread.

 Answer: all of the way back on 11/7/01, when the range was 50, was the last time Augusta had a diurnal range at least as great as the 49 of 10/26/14. The low was 28 and the high was 78. It wouldn't totally shock me if this 49 was the greatest diurnal range for any official GA station since the 50 of 11/7/01.

Great temperature inversion on our 12Z sounding this morning. Here in Blacksburg, we are at an elevation of about 2,100 feet. The temperature here was 35 degrees. Just 900 feet up, or about 3,000 feet in elevation, the temperature is 57 degrees! That would explain why there is a huge difference in temperatures across the region this morning. Many of the valleys dropped into the 30's, while places like Boone and Bluefield stayed in the 50's all night.

Has really warmed up today. Currently we are at 80 and the dew points have climbed into the low 60's. Supposed to be close to 85 today. A bit uncomfortable to late October.

Was 85 here yesterday and 80 currently. Probably won't get quite as warm as yesterday but good grief, this sucks.

This is going to make those low temps in the 30s, and maybe even upper 20s this weekend feel especially nice though.

Orangeburg airport had rain on the 13th and 14th that totaled almost an inch

That is wierd because TWC monthly observations show that the last recorded rainfall was on the 3rd...I will pay attention to airport now since it is just 6 miles from my house...But in any case... that is still 2 weeks without any precip....we need it...
