huronicane
Hey guys, haven't been around those parts in almost a month! I've got you all beat for snow by almost a month. September 12 brought at least 1/2" for a lot of areas. http://www.dailycamera.com/boulder-weather/ci_26517690/boulder-weather-more-rain-and-showers-this-morning Gorgeous place out here. Chicago WX
I dont know why that stat fascinates me so much, but I even texted my mom lol (shes always been sort of interested in weather, but with me later in life shes gotten into weather stats a bit lol). That really puts 2014 into perspective here in the Lakes/Midwest. I looked it up for Detroit...there have been 14 days in 2014 with high temps 20 degrees or more below normal (most extreme departure was -33F) and we did eek out 2 days 20 degrees above normal (most extreme was +20, obviously set twice lol). The winter is what really smashed the record books, but the rest of the year has maintained enough of a below normal temp pattern that 2014 is still on pace to be in the top 20 coldest years on record for Detroit, something not seen since 1979. Well, you know LAF is whacked most of the time...but still, looking at IND stats tells a similar story. Pretty good chance this will be a top 10 coolest year on record for Indianapolis...full yearly records date back to 1872. Through September, it was in sixth place. michsnowfreak
Had 0.10" of rain today, which brought my monthly total to 0.73". This brings my yearly total to exactly 35.00" with most of Oct and Nov-Dec to go. Calendar year snowfall is at 79.3". And there are nearly 3 months left in the year. Been a stormy one! Geos
43° for the low early this morning. Mid to upper 50s beyond today for the next 6 days, which is 5-10° below normal. ... Little skeptical about how above normal it will be. By next week, mid 60s for highs are above normal. Looks like western areas of the subforum stand a chance at more normal temperatures during this period.
SpartyOn
Yeah the 8-14 day sure does look toasty. Was keeping faith that we would have a persistent below normal month :-/
wisconsinwx
Yeah the 8-14 day sure does look toasty. Was keeping faith that we would have a persistent below normal month :-/ I wanted that as well to continue the near perfect of below normal months our last eleven months, but in reality, it wouldn't be so bad to have an Indian Summer given harsh winters can often follow. Hoosier
I know many folks will remember this... PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDIANAPOLIS IN 615 AM EDT TUE OCT 7 2014 ..ON THIS DATE IN CENTRAL INDIANA WEATHER HISTORY 2007 AT INDIANAPOLIS...THE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE DATE IS SET AT 90 DEGREES. For LAF, the 7th was the warmest day of the stretch with a high of 91.
Hoosier
On the flip side, I was in Lake county IN for this wild early season lake snow event that was accompanied by periods of thunder/lightning. I went with a friend to see a movie and I remember checking radar before I left and thinking it could get interesting later, and it did. Some areas away from the lake picked up several inches. Amounts were in the 2-3" range where I was...extremely wet, heavy stuff. Temps stayed a couple degrees above freezing so it gives you an idea of how hard it was snowing to be able to stick in early October when there's a lot of residual ground warmth. Somebody around Peotone got 6" IIRC.

There's a reason I skipped over that post. But yeah, someone in Peotone reported 6.0". It was a nice appetizer for the coming December.
stormtrackertf
I know many folks will remember this... For LAF, the 7th was the warmest day of the stretch with a high of 91. A memorable stretch up here in Detroit too in what was a rare 4-day October heat wave. On this date in 2007, it made it up to 89 and on October 8th, it reached 90 to set the record for latest 90 degree day ever achieved in Detroit. I think Summer of 2007 was the "longest" summer I can ever remember.

stormtrackertf
Today was weird here, started out clear as a bell, clouds rolled in, sprinkled a little, and then the sun came out for the rest of the day and we missed out on any real precipitation. Was looking like we'd get some decent rain today at some points.
