powderfreak
All you have to do is increase the saturation. On that photo no...just darken it a little to get rid of the mild haze on the background mountain. In balancing the light, that will cause some slighty greater contrast in the foreground But really he may need to head down in elevation...I found the stuff above like 2,500ft was more bland. The sweet spot this year seemed to be 1,000-2,500ft.

mreaves
Today wasn't a great example of this but I think that some of the best foliage days are the overcast ones. The colors really pop on days like that. I know most prefer deep blue skies in the background but I sometimes prefer overcast days.

Radders
I have been hanging out in Stowe today and although it's been overcast and rainy, I definitely agree that it makes better foliage viewing, I prefer it.

eyewall
Bright sunny days often washes out the vivid colors but many people don't understand that. Yes it does, unless close to sunrise or sunset. Overcast during the day and a little light rain really can bring them out.

bobbutts
I'm kind of a hack at post-processing, but I know someone who is fantastic at it. He loves the curves tool. I did a quick adjustment on one of the images from before to show how powerful it is. Before: After:

There is a bit of modification near the lake, but it's minor if at all. I'm just looking forward to getting away.
Juliancolton
I'm kind of a hack at post-processing, but I know someone who is fantastic at it. He loves the curves tool. I did a quick adjustment on one of the images from before to show how powerful it is. Applying a slight "S" shape to the tone curves does wonders for adding contrast and increasing dynamic range, but it is easy to go overboard, especially if you've been staring at the image for a while. I try to avoid bringing down the shadows too far, as you start to quickly lose detail in the deeper tones. Personally I tend to avoid touching the far left and far right sides of the histogram (maybe like 1/6th one each side?) unless I'm doing localized adjustments or correcting a fundamental exposure error. Nice shot.
Juliancolton
Just for comparison, here's my interpretation of your pic. Before: After: It's a bit hard to do with the downsampled version, but that gives you an idea of what I would have done with it.

dendrite
apparently SNH is meh as my wife is at a softball tournament in Manchester, said our area was less green Manch is like the first place in the state to leaf out in the Spring. They're not very representative of the area. I haven't been down in S NH in a couple weeks though. The maples and birches are starting to take a hit over the last 24hrs up here with leaf drop. The oaks are obviously still mixed color/green. I just feel like we'll be on the downward side by next weekend.

J Paul Gordon
Monadonock on Rte 124 between Keene and Jaffrey on Friday. Polarizing lens brought out yellows. White Pine trees in this region (including Worcester) have lots of yellow needles. Never noticed this before. Do they normally start losing older needles this time of year?
