LithiaWx
I remember this well, it was epic in every sense of the word. GaWx
I remember this well, it was epic in every sense of the word. Please feel free to share your experiences from this 1 in 500-1000 year flood event. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ffc/?n=atlanta_floods_anniv I have some friends who were then living not far from Gwinnett Place mall who had by far the worst flooding they had ever had there for the ~20 years they had lived there (from 10+" of rain). It was horrible. That was the last straw that made them move to a much less flood prone area. The ironic thing about it is that they were out of the country, where the weather was much better than normal when this occurred. They came home to a stinky flooded home. It was very shocking and depressing.
toxictwister00
I know Metal is gonna call me out on this, but this truly was the worst flooding I had ever seen in my life. Nothing comes close except the flooding from Hurricane Ivan a decade ago.I remember when we got out of high school around 3:15 that afternoon, the roads/sidewalks were a mess. In fact, I could barely see the sidewalk and I couldn't see the roads at all. I was walking home in flood waters that came up halfway between my ankles and my knees. The umbrella was useless especially since there was some wind gusting along with some thunder/lightning at that time. The irony is Atlanta Public Schools closed the following day which was a Tuesday, but the rain stopped, the roads started drying out (where I live anyway), and the sun was out. So we basically wasted what could have been an extra snow day. I guess I can't blame them, the forecast from what I remember was for heavy rain and thunderstorms all week long, but that didn't happen.
